Ohio State won the title at the Big Ten women’s swimming and diving championship Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa, and former Lincoln High School graduate and swimming standout Taylor Petrak was a big part of the Buckeye’s first Big Ten title since 1986.
The 5’9″ junior was part of a victorious 200 freestyle relay team that set a pool record time of 1:27.57.
The Buckeyes maintained a steady advantage all the way through Saturday evening and won the title by a margin of 197 points over rival Michigan. Ohio State reclaimed the title from Michigan after winning the event in 2018 but finishing in second to the Wolverines last year.
On Saturday evening, with the meet already clinched, the relay team of Lucija Jurkovic-Perisa, Petrak, Amy Fulmer, and Freya Rayner took to the water for one last swim. The squad set a new school record and claimed the silver medal with an NCAA A time of 3:13.06.
Petrak was also part of a 100 freestyle relay team that finished fifth through eights while all securing NCAA B times and claimed fifth in the 50 Free A Final.
For her efforts, Petrak earned First Team tournament honors.
Seven Buckeyes earned First Team honors, including Petrak, MacKenzie Crawford, Kathrin Demler, Amy Fulmer, Lucija Jurkovic-Perisa, Molly Kowal, Taylor Petrak, and Freya Rayner.
Taylor, a 2017 Lincoln High School Graduate, is a major in the College of Business seeking to earn a bachelor of science in business administration with a concentration in marketing. She minors in fashion and retail.
