Riverside quarterback Ben Hughes made sure his last ‘RivEll’ game would be a memorable one. The senior tossed a career-high six touchdown passes to lead the Panthers to a 49-28 victory over Ellwood City Friday night as part of Riverside homecoming festivities.
The Panthers raced out to an early lead, and capped by Hughes’ third touchdown strike of the half – a 36-yard strike to Nathan Sciarro – led the Wolverines 28-0 at the half.
The teams exchanged scores in the second half in what amounted to an offensive showcase as both teams combined for over 750 total yards of offense.
Hughes finished nearly perfect passing (14-16, 197 yards) in the contest and connected with Sciarro (7 catches, 147 yards) for three touchdown strikes. Sam Hughes, Josh Bishop, and Dantae Phillips also hauled in touchdowns for the Panthers (5-2 overall)
For the Wolverines (0-8 overall), junior Ryan Gibbons (8-18, 129 yards) tossed two touchdown passes while senior Storm Chambers rumbled for two touchdown runs in defeat. Ellwood City matched its season total in points (28) in the second half alone Friday night. Tyler Powell led the Wolverine rush attack with 160 yards on the ground while Ashton hauled in six catches for 99 yards in defeat.
