Construction crews are currently going through the demolition process of the former Koppel Bridge, removing the concrete deck and barrier, as part of the ongoing Koppel Bridge project that has forced the closure of the former Koppel Bridge, according to a PennDOT project manager this week.
When reached for comment, a PennDOT project manager advised, “at this point, all is going very well with the project.”
In addition to the demolition process, a retaining wall is being built for the roadways leading the new bridge. Asphalt work is expected to begin on the Ellwood City approach in about a week. The next phase will be installing the actual superstructure.
The project manager confirmed everything is on track with the reopening schedule. The bridge is scheduled to open October 24, 2019.
