Ellwood Fall Sport Senior Q&A: Part 2

School is back in full swing and so are high school sports!

Those sports wouldn’t be the same without a big dose of school spirit, and that’s where the Wolverine Cheerleaders shine.

We caught up with the coaches of the cheerleaders, and she couldn’t be happier with this year’s squad.

“Going into my 19th year of varsity cheer coach this group has kept me young for sure,” said Coach Karen Steilner. “They are a young and newer group and have really improved since camp at beginning of August. I am so proud of them and know that they will only get better as the season moves on through football and basketball. The young woman are talented as cheerleaders and are exceptional students as well.”

Lincoln High School senior cheerleaders offered perspective on the season ahead and their plans for the future.

Cheerleading: Sariena Asalone

How many years have you been cheering? I have been cheering for 13 years.

What is your favorite part of cheerleading? My favorite part of cheerleading is choreographing the routines.

How have you and your squad been getting ready for the new season? Our squad has be preparing for this season by participating in a UCA stunt camp and having many practices to perfect our routine and cheers.

Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season in competitions or otherwise? Our biggest rival has always been Riverside and always will be.

What is one skill you have learned from cheerleading that you will utilize in your future and how? One skill I have learned from cheerleading is discipline which I will carry throughout my future as a student and a teacher by always being prepared and active in my work.

What are your future plans after graduation? Will you continue to cheer after high school? My future plans are to attend a 4 year university to study psychiatry and dance. I may continue to cheer at a college level depending on the university I choose.

Cheerleading: Morgan Falesnik

How many years have you been cheering? I have been a cheerleader for 12 consecutive years.

What is your favorite part of cheerleading? My favorite part of cheering is being able to see the younger generation fall in love with it the way I have and know that I am apart of it.

How have you and your squad been getting ready for the new season? This season is all about trying new things. We are all working at being the best versions of ourselves!

Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season in competitions or otherwise? Riverside! As always, I am looking forward to cheering our boys onto victory against Riverside.

What is one skill you have learned from cheerleading that you will utilize in your future and how? One skill I have learned is how to work with different kinds of people. Dealing with 25 other girls, I have seen that we all have different ways of learning and handling things and that I need to be conscious of that.

What are your future plans after graduation? Will you continue to cheer after high school? I plan to attend a four-year college and law school after that. As much as I love cheering, I will use my years after high school to focus on college and my future.

Cheerleading: Hannah Morini

How many years have you been cheering? I have been cheering for 11 years.

What is your favorite part of cheerleading? My favorite part of cheerleading is learning and trying new stunts.

How have you and your squad been getting ready for the new season? My squad and I have been practicing since the beginning of August, and also we did a stunt camp to learn new skills.

Who do you feel is your biggest rivalry this upcoming season in competitions or otherwise? Our biggest rivalry is definitely Riverside.

What is one skill you have learned from cheerleading that you will utilize in your future and how? In cheerleading I have learned to always be responsible like showing up on time and making sure everyone is where they need to be. It taught me to have lots of control, and I will definitely need that in my future!

What are your future plans after graduation? Will you continue to cheer after high school? My plan for the future is to attend a University and study Psychology and Pre-Med. I would love to be a college cheerleader if it doesn’t get in the way of my studies!
