Ellwood City defeated Mars, 4-2, to win the 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Sunday night.
Ellwood City, which went undefeated in the tournament, won the title for the first time since 2008.
Cheered on by a large home crowd, Ellwood City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. With the victory, Ellwood City won their third straight tournament-winning the New Brighton and Neshannock tournaments previously.
In their championship game victory on Sunday, Ellwood City was led at the plate by Jordan Keller with a double, single and two RBI and Anthony Barberio with two singles and an RBI. Luke Bleakney singled and layed down a sacrifice bunt in two at-bats. Rondele Irving added a single.
Willy Nardone was the winning pitcher in relief of Landis on Sunday. Landis threw four scoreless innings and allowed three hits with five strikeouts. Nardone allowed one earned run in two innings of work. He fanned four batters and allowed three hits. Haddad threw a six-hitter and allowed one earned run while fanning 10 batters.
In Friday nights’ 2-0 victory over Neshannock, Ellwood City pitchers Owen Andrews and Sam Landis combined to strikeout 19 batters and held Neshannock to just two hits.
Andrews was the winning pitcher Friday night with five innings of relief of two-hit relief. He struck out 13 batters and walked two. Landis fanned six batters without a walk in two innings of work.
