After trailing for much of the game, a four-run rally by Ellwood City was later outdone by a 5-run final frame by Neshannock leading to a 10-7 road victory for the Lancers at Stiefel Park on Wednesday.
The Wolverines rallied in the fifth inning and laid claim to a two-run cushion entering the seventh inning, but Neshannock plated two runs to tie the game and later in the inning saw Jesse Fehrs double home the go-ahead run.
Neshannock fired up the offense in the first inning, when Fehrs singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run to stake the Lancers to the early lead.
After Neshannock scored two runs in the top of the third, Wolverines answered with two of their own with the help of a 2-run homer by senior Natalia Greco that cut the Wolverine deficit.
The Wolverines put up four runs in the fifth inning. Ellwood City’s offense in the inning came from an error on a ball put in play by Makinley Magill, Kyla Servick, and Maura Agostinelli and a sacrifice fly by Angie Nardone.
Fehrs got the win for Neshannock, allowing six hits and seven runs over seven innings, striking out three. Nardone took the loss for Wolverines. She allowed 13 hits and ten runs over seven innings, striking out four.
Wolverines tallied six hits in the game and were aided by six Lancer errors. Greco and Anna Ferrucci all collected multiple hits for Ellwood City. Ferrucci and Greco each collected two extra-base hits to lead the Wolverine offense.
Fehrs, Neleh Nogay, Ellina DeLillo, and Hannah Lash all managed multiple hits for Neshannock. Fehrs went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Neshannock.
