Fireworks Fundraiser draws closer to $5,000 goal.

“We’ve received many donations and t shirt orders from people in the community and some people who don’t even live here,” said Eric Rayner, organizer of the fundraiser. “I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such an amazing community.”

As of May 6, $4,357 has been raised toward the $5,000 goal.

The most recent donation was made by Bud Mazzant in combination with Berkshire Hathaway of Cranberry. They donated $500. Mazzant said the decision to donate was simple.

“If you do away with fireworks and all those ammenities, you ruin a small town,” Mazzant said. “You can’t lose these traditions. the community has been good to me, and I felt like I wanted to give something back in a small way.”

Rayner and Festival Committee Chair Rayleen Boots held an in person meet and greet donation day at National Grind on May 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at National Grind Coffee & Tea Shop where $173 was raised. Rayner was pleased with the turnout stating that even the Chamber of Commerce was in attendance to show support.

“It was a great experience! It was awesome to just get out in the community and put the faces to those who are supporting. We met met some people who had just moved to town, and some people who came from out of town to support”

He plans to host another one on May 18 at 8 a.m. for an all day event that will coincide with the Relay for Life event.

Although Rayner had no doubt the community would rally, the support has been a welcome reaction.

“We have had tremendous support from local business in Ellwood City,” Rayner said. “And that says a lot because we have not reached out to any of them for donations, they have reached out to us.”
