Ariana Garroway was an RBI machine on Monday, driving in four runs on three hits while Natalia Greco slugged a homerun to power the Wolverines past North Catholic 9-6 on Monday.
Garroway drove in runs on a grand slam in the first as the Wolverines batted around and raced out to an early 9-0 lead at home.
North Catholic scored five runs in the third inning, but Wolverines still managed to pull out the victory. Garroway went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Wolverines in hits. Eight Wolverines collected at least one hit in the contest. Ellwood City was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Ioanilli made the most plays with seven.
Angie Nardone was the winning pitcher for Wolverines. She surrendered six runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out four.
North Catholic batters contributing in defeat included Adrienne Nardone and Meghan Grill, all driving in runs in a 5-run third inning.
Nardone took the loss for North Catholic. She allowed ten hits and nine runs over six innings, striking out one. Liana Morreale led North Catholic with two hits in two at-bats.
The Lady Wolverines will finish section play on Wednesday as they travel to Hopewell for a meeting with the Vikings. First pitch is set for 4pm.
Ellwood City Baseball Holds On For Victory Over Freedom Area
Ellwood City Wolverines got out to a four-run lead in the fourth inning and held on for a 5-4 victory over Freedom Area on Monday. Freedom Area scored three runs in the failed comeback on a double by Max Ujhazy and a error.
Ellwood City Wolverines earned the victory despite allowing Freedom Area to score three runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by Freedom Area was led by Ujhazy and David Jansen, who all drove in runs.
Ellwood City Wolverines notched three runs in the fourth inning. Brady Welsh and Ricky Pitrelli each drove in runs during the inning.
Ryan Gibbons was the winning pitcher for Ellwood City Wolverines. He went five and a third innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out three. Ryan Hampton threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Hampton recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Ellwood City Wolverines.
Noah Henderson took the loss for Freedom Area. He surrendered five runs on four hits over three and a third innings, striking out two.
Noah Magill, Joey Rush, Welsh, and Gibbons all had one hit to lead Ellwood City Wolverines.
Freedom Area collected six hits on the day. Zach Rosa and Noah Yeck each managed multiple hits for Freedom Area.
