PART 3: Musical “Mary Poppins” Cast Q&A

“In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” – Mary Poppins.

Beginning Friday, November 9 and concluding with an afternoon matinee on Sunday, November 11, Lincoln High School will be showcasing its annual high school musical – “Mary Poppins”

In a 3-part series, EllwoodCity.org gathered answers from some musical leads and will showcase dress rehearsal photos. For the finale part of our series, we interviewed cast members Camilla Cortez, and Helena Kalantzis.

If you plan to attend the musical, showtimes are Friday, November 9 at 7:30pm, Saturday, November 10 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday, November 11 at 2:00pm. Admission is $13.00 for adults, $11 for senior citizens, children, and students. Camilla Cortez

Current Grade?
I am in 12th grade.

How many musicals have you been apart of?
This is going to be my 8th musical.

Your role in Mary Poppins?
I play Miss Andrew Friday night and Saturday matinee. Saturday night and Sunday, I play Winifred Banks.

Why did you audition for this role?
I did a general audition for any role. I just wanted to be apart of Mary Poppins.

Favorite song or scene from the musical?
My favorite song and scene is Step In Time.

Favorite thing about your character?
I like how my characters are very different from each other and from myself.

Has your character taught you anything “life changing” or that will stay with you after the show?
My character has taught me that things may get rough, but in the end everything will be okay. Just keep pushing through, being kind, and helping each other. Family is also important in life.

8. Future plans?
I will be going to college to dual major in Psychology and Musical Theater. I will also, hopefully, continue my cross country career.

 

 

 

Helena Kalantzis

8.

Your role in Mary Poppins?

Bird Woman

Why did you audition for this role?
One of my directors personally picked me to try out, I originally wasn’t going to.

Favorite song or scene from the musical?
Favorite song is Let’s Hope She Will Stay

Favorite thing about your character?
My costume has pockets.

Has your character taught you anything “life changing” or that will stay with you after the show?
Patience is key and to enjoy the simple things in life.

Future plans?
I hope to become a professional psychologist (like a therapist).
