Riverside Graduate Creates His Own Horror Effects

Omega FX is a small business created by John Guerrini. Guerrini is a Riverside grad who attended Seton Hill University to get his degree after high school.

He had been hired for a job at an amusement park as a college student during the Halloween season, where he had gotten a job as one of the people in costume that walked around the park and it spark his love for all things horror.

The ideas behind these frights and how they worked interest Guerrini so much that he decided to create his own business based around the scaring community. Now, Omega FX is known all over Western Pennsylvania for their large scaled wearable puppets, props, special effects make-up, and their portable mazes that can be either family friendly or haunting.

The company also creates special order masks, and plan to expand. The plan for the companies future is to have their own escape-maze, a dark coaster, and escape rooms, along with a spot at Halloween Prop Trade Shows, like the show Transworld

Transworld is considered a “must attend” for anyone involved in the Halloween attraction business. The show is a place where companies get together to purchase products, share ideas, and create contacts with other people in the business.

Guerrini has become involved in the ROAR Haunted Hayride at Riverside High School for the past two years, providing make-up, props, and the maze at the end. It’s been his way of giving back to the community he graduated from.

The ideas and concepts behind Omega FXs props, puppet creatures, and mazes are all original and unique to the company.

“They’re thanks to my over active mind,” Guerrini said. “I try to avoid mainstream horror and keep it all my own ideas.”

Besides the recent Haunted Hayride, Omega FX can been seen this weekend from Friday, October 19 until Sunday, October 21 at Fearscapes Haunted Attraction and Blackout Maze, which is hosted by the Koppel Big Beaver Sportsmen’s Association.
