Two teams of area public servants came together Sunday afternoon for a camaraderie-building, pick-up softball game at the Ellport Lower Park.

“No other reason than just to get the two departments together for some fun,” said Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Myers. “We hope to make it an annual event.”

The two teams, pitted as blue versus red, consisted of police department members, Dave Kingston, Ryan Kingston, Rich Kruger, Frank Jennetti, Vinny Jennetti, Jon Fauzey, Wayne Parsons, John Baldelli, Royce Dyber, Mike McBride, and Jon Disher, versus fire department members, Rick Myers, Jason Andrews, Brian Flanary, Mike Whitlatch, Josh Riley, Jon Battaglia, Dan Frederick, Randy Syphrit, Justin Grogan, Brandon Magnifico, Jessica Copper, Jim Bish, Ed Painter and 3rd base coach Jack Andrews.

The Police Department Team had officers representing Ellwood City, North Sewickley Township, Franklin Township, Wampum and the Lawrence County Sheriff department while the Fire Department Team had firefighters representing Ellwood City, North Sewickley township, Franklin Township, Wurtemburg-Perry Township, Evans City, New Castle and Portersville-Muddy Creek Township.

The Fire Department Team won the tightly contest battle, 15-13.

“It was a great game. Everybody had a lot of fun,” said EMT Mike Whitlatch.  “We are just trying to build a strong relationship between the organizations.”
