Ellwood & Riverside Football Both Defeated Handedly On Road

Both Ellwood City and Riverside football teams took the road Friday night, but were both defeated handedly by their section foes.  Ellwood City fell victim to New Brighton 30-13 while Riverside was shutout by Freedom 43-0.

Ellwood City relied heavily on their ground game Friday night, but it was the Lions air attack that led to the New Brighton victory.  Again victimized by the big play, the Wolverine defense allowed an 81-yard touchdown strike on the game’s second play from scrimmage.  Junior quarterback Jackson Hall found senior wideout Caleb Shuler for the early connection.  Wolverine tailback Ricky Pitrelli scored to counter, but New Brighton used a 7-yard touchdown run by Alex Stock to stretch out to a 14-6 halftime lead.

Hall later tossed two more touchdowns to Schuler in the third quarter putting the Lions ahead for good. Hall finished the game with over 200 yards passing and three touchdowns for New Brighton.

The Wolverines (0-3 overall) used 31 carries from backers Donavin Chambers, Ricky Pitrelli, and Rocco Sesti with Chambers leading the backfield with over 100 yards rushing on the evening including a 24-yard touchdown run.  Ellwood City will next head to Neshannock on Friday night.

Freedom scored on its first three offensive possessions to race out to an early 29-0 lead before halftime.   Quarterback Zach Rosa ran for a touchdown and connected on a touchdown pass for the Bulldogs whose defense kept the powerful Panthers offense in check throughout the contest.

Riverside (2-1 overall) will try to get back on track Friday when it hosts Western Beaver at home.
