Ellwood City Council voted 5-0 on Thursday night to name a previous Borough Manager Joseph Cioffi, as the interim manager. Council members Rob Brough and Marilyn Mancini were absent from the special meeting.
Cioffi, will be paid $30 per hour and will work a full-time shift from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Monday to Friday, starting next week.
Since stepping down as manager, Cioffi has remained involved locally, serving for a time as parks and recreation director and as the playgrounds director, among other positions.
Judith Dici, council president has been filling in as interim manager since the board denied Robert Villella a contract extension in January, Cioffi will serve until a permanent replacement can be hired.
The borough has struggled to find candidates for the manager position, having to advertise it twice. One applicant withdrew from consideration last month as his name was released to the public. It now is unclear how many candidates remain or when the position can be permanently filled.
“The borough could no longer wait for someone with administrative experience to step in because it is getting close to budget time,” Dici said. “It was becoming harder for me to effectively fill in.”
Welcome to Ellwood City, Where the good ole boys club is still very much alive and kicking.
So much for those new faces that promised a difference. #Lieafterlie
Bravo! Valerie, I agree. Those “new faces” don’t even show up for meetings.
They show up on social media to pat themselves on the back for most everything. Yet are never available for comment. The new faces are in the pocket of Aaron Berstine so deep, he is basically on Ellwood city council. Berstine is pushing so hard for the landlord change because good Ole Bush is in the buddy club and owns every run down shack in Ellwood city. So many people blind to what is going on because they pay couple extra bucks a month on “electric”. You want to know why Ellwood holds landlord’s accountable, they service just over 4000 people. To dodge paying a delinquent bill, you literally can move a mile away. To escape first energy and their ability to collect on old service you must move states away. If landlords are getting left with bills, they should be more careful in renting to liabilities.
