Gunnar Boehm’s five-RBI outburst sealed the deal in Riverside’s 11-1 mercy rule victory over Ellwood City on Friday afternoon at Dan Oliastro Field.
Boehm showed timely hitting on Friday, driving in five runs on only two hits including the grand slam in the pivotal, 7-run 4th inning to lead Riverside. Boehm also doubled in a run in the sixth.
Panthers Ty Thellman, Ethan Ziegler, and Boehm all contributed in the big 4th inning with RBIs.
Danny Fox earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Riverside. He went six innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out eight and walking zero.
The Panthers (5-1 overall) socked two home runs on the day. Boehm went yard in the fourth inning. Austin Dambach went deep, over the left centerfield wall in the third inning.
Riverside racked up 12 hits in the game. Brian MacMurdo, Dambach, Drew Speicher, Boehm, and Dylan Shannon all managed multiple hits for the Panthers. Shannon, Boehm, Speicher, Dambach, and MacMurdo each collected two hits to lead Riverside.
Jake Matheny took the loss for Ellwood City. He went one inning, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one. The Wolverine offense, limited to two hits by Fox, were only able to scratch out hits by Noah Rinker and Ryan Gibbons in the contest.
