HARRISBURG – Eighteen fire and ambulance organizations in the 10th Legislative District have been awarded more than $235,000 in funding through the 2016-17 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced today.
“Our local volunteers stretch every dollar to help meet their expenses for insurance, training, equipment and vehicles,” Bernstine said. “These grants will help ease the financial burden each of these companies has in helping to protect our communities.”
The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue.
Grant awards can be used for construction or renovation of facilities, purchase or repair of equipment, training or debt reduction.
Following is a list of local fire and ambulance companies in the 10th District that received grants and the amount of the awards:
Beaver County
- Beaver Falls Volunteer Fire Department – $15,000
- Beaver Volunteer Fire Department – $13,130.64
- Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department – $13, 902.60
- Koppel Volunteer Fire Company – $12,616
- New Brighton Volunteer Fire Company – $15,000
- North Sewickley Township Volunteer Fire Department – $14,674.56
Butler County
- Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company (EMS) – $7,448.21
- Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company (Fire) – $15,000
Lawrence County
- Borough of Ellwood City Fire Department – $13,645.28
- Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department – $14,417.24
- Enon Valley Community Volunteer Fire Department – $11,844.04
- New Beaver Borough Volunteer Fire Department – $12,616
- Scott Township Volunteer Fire Department – $13,645.28
- Slippery Rock Township Volunteer Fire Department – $12,101.36
- Volant Volunteer Fire Company – $13,645.28
- Wampum Volunteer Fire Department – $11,844.04
- Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department – $12,101.36
- Wurtemburg-Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department – $12,873.32
A total of $30 million in funding was awarded to fire and ambulance organizations statewide.
