Public Meeting Planned To Review Ellwood City Downtown Development Project

The Borough of Ellwood City is conducting a public open house meeting to review and discuss design development plans and a preliminary engineering report prepared for the Ellwood City Downtown Central Business District Revitalization and Economic Development Project. This study is for improvements to the portion of Lawrence Avenue between 4th Street and 6th Street. The Ellwood City Revitalization held its 3rd Annual Winter Wine and Brew Fest on Saturday afternoon at the Ellwood City Sons of Italy Club.  The event featured beer and wine tasting, entertainment, DJ, raffles, catered food, and a Chinese Auction. Over 25 baskets donated by local businesses along with two gun raffles, sponsored by Duke’s Sport Shop, and two 50/50 raffles! Participation benefits the Ellwood City Revitalization projects. The area of 509 to 515 Lawrence Avenue has been awarded to Lutz & Myers Inc. for redeveloping, and now Ron Lutz says the next step for developing is finding potential businesses. VIDEO: Fifth Street Bridge Renovation

Watch the sparks fly as crews work to renovate the Fifth Street Bridge. Crews from Thornbury Inc of West Sunbury, Pa. are working to repair the deteriorating condition of the old railroad overpass, including removing and repairing concrete, removing calcium deposits, replace downspouts and reroute the storm sewers on Fifth, and redirect any ground water from plugged holes. After that, the crews will be replacing the entire sidewalk on the north side of the bridge, facing Lawrence, and erecting a 60-foot long, 6-foot tall chain link fence on top of the abutment. Work is expected to be completed Nov. 22.
