The Ellwood City Boys and Riverside Girls Track and Field Teams each collected 2nd Place finishes At Beaver County Championships Saturday at Helling Stadium. The Wolverine boys finished with 83 team points on the afternoon while the Panther girls collected 84.5 points. For Ellwood City, the four man relay team of Nick Wise, Bradley Custer, Drew Steffler, and Colten Crizer posted a 1st place finish in the Boys 4×800 Meter Relay (8:28.62). Sturgeon Captures 1st Place In High Jump At ‘Rock Relays’ On Saturday

Sophomore Delaney Sturgeon captured a 1st place finish in the Girls High Jump at the Slippery Rock University “Rock Relays” on Saturday. The high school invitational took place at the William Lennox Track at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium with teams from more than 40 high schools across the region participating. Sturgeon earned the top podium spot with a final jump of 5’0″ that bested six other athletes who all finished tied at 4’10”. Panthers Have Set Of MVPs, Set Javelin Record In Beaver County Track & Field Championships

Saturday marked the 50th Beaver County Track and Field Championships competition held at Riverside High School. Ellwood City and Riverside teams were well represented and turned in some podium-worthy performances and all four teams put together top ten finishes. The Ellwood City boys track and field team swept its season opening meet this week, earning victories over Riverside and Union. The girls track team split their meet, with a victory over Union, but were bested by rival Riverside. “It’s a great start to the season and having the win against the cross-town rivals who have long been known for success on the track simply adds to the celebration,” said head coach Nate Brown. The Ellwood City Wolverines track and field teams earned victories over Union Area this past weekend at Union. For the boys, in its 105-44 victory, Brennen Marsh (200m) 26.1., Anthony Spadafore (400m) 59.5., Marley Schwiger (800m) 2:11.5., Nolan Currain (1600m) 5:30.1., and Kaiden Schlicenrull (3200m) 12:20.8. earned first place finishes for Ellwood City. COACH TALK: Ellwood City Track Under New Tutelage

The Ellwood City Track & Field team will be under new tutelage this spring and the group of athletes will look to overcome a bit of adversity. $3.3 million dollars in renovations for Helling Stadium will begin in April. The work includes the installation of a new artificial turf field, new lighting, and a completely redone track. Work that will uproot the Wolverines from a home track, forcing practices to be held at neighboring Riverside’s track facility and all meets to be on the road this season, but none of that will affect the team’s performance according to new coach…


Ellwood City Track Teams Fall To Beaver

The Ellwood City boys and girls track teams were defeated by Beaver Area Friday afternoon.  For the girls, a strong showing in the 100m was put together by the trio of Avory Elchison, Mia DeCaria, and Alena Battaglia who swept the event for the Wolverines.  DeCaria also took first place in the high jump and long jump to spur the Wolverines. Ellwood’s Petrak and Lott Advance to Track States

The 300 meter hurdles and 1600 meter run are two of the most physically taxing events in track and field. The hurdles not only requires one to sprint an extended distance, but navigate hurdles as well. The 1600 (approximately one mile) requires speed, endurance and a considerable amount of strategy to pace the four laps and outlast the competition. Ellwood has an athlete advancing in each event.
