Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their Columbus Day Dinner on Tuesday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m. The dinner was held at the Wolverine Restaurant. Orator, Valerie Valentino, who was serving as acting President and Chairman for this event, greeted guests on arrival. Historian, Mary Jane Folino, assisted by presenting favors to all in attendance. The session was held at Pizza Joe’s and began with a luncheon hosted by the President, Clemmy Sirimarco and served by Historian, Mary Jane Folino and Sentinel, Lois DiFrischia. Honoring St. Patrick’s Day, the session began with an Irish Stew dinner prepared by the staff and served by lodge officers, Purdue LaCava, Mary Jane Folino, Patty Regna and members, Margaret Cancelli, and Anita Chaffin. Corona D’italia Lodge #807 celebrated the 100th anniversary of the organization of one of the first Italian Societies for women. Guided by the late John Statti, whose wife, Mary, was a polio victim, urging the women to form a social network. The Lodge began with 77 Charter members on December 31, 1917. The Charter organizers were Sylvia Bellora, who served as the first Venerable{President) Rola Pesce and Luigia Rubino. Recognized as the Founders are, Bellora, Angelina Fraschetti, Vittoria Port, Frances DeMartini, Mary DiThomas, Ida Colavincenzo, Lulu Bevivino and Dena Parascenzo. Timothy A. Houk, a senior from Ellwood City, received a $500.00 scholarship courtesy of the Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 committee. Son of Tom and Lee Ann Houk, he is employed at the Log Cabin and also involved with the family business, he followed the academic course of study through high school and participated in boys basketball and the History Club and now plans to attend Slippery Rock University to study exercise science.
