Bernstine Introduces Bill to Eliminate Concealed Carry Permit Requirement in PA

HARRISBURG – Coinciding with a Second Amendment rights rally held today in Harrisburg, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) unveiled “constitutional carry” legislation, which would no longer require law-abiding citizens to obtain a license to carry a concealed firearm in Pennsylvania.

“If a citizen passes a criminal background check, it is patently unjust and unconstitutional to add layers of bureaucratic regulations on those who are least likely to commit a crime,” said Bernstine, a vocal pro-Second Amendment lawmaker. “The current process is a duplicative abuse of the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners.”

Bernstine’s bill would make available an optional concealed carry license which would be valid in other states that have a reciprocal agreement with Pennsylvania.

Current law does not require citizens to obtain a license to openly carry a firearm in Pennsylvania.

“Pennsylvanians that follow the law each day should not be punished or hindered just because they prefer to carry their weapon concealed,” said Bernstine.

Nine other states currently do not require a concealed carry license to carry a concealed firearm.

Bernstine announced his legislation during a meeting with Second Amendment supporters and firearm owners from Beaver County who traveled to Harrisburg for the annual Rally to Protect Your Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

  1. This is long past due. With the constant unconstitutional restrictions and attacks being levied by the likes of Governor Tom Wolf and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, this will help protect the rights of Pennsylvanians.
