Betty J. Crawford, 93

Betty J. Crawford, 93, formerly of North Sewickley Twp. passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Blair Personal Care Home following a lengthy illness.

Born January 17, 1923 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Dorothy Forbush Houk. She was married to Eugene E. “Curly” Crawford for 27 years when he passed away in 1969.

Betty, along with her son, “Crete” owned and operated the Shelby Bar for 14 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. An avid bowler, Betty bowled at Park Lanes for many years.

Survivors include a daughter, Dottie (John) Boots of Daugherty Twp.; daughter in law, Patty Crawford of North Sewickley Twp., two brothers, Leroy Houk of Ellwood City, James Houk of Chewton, 3 grandchildren – Eric (Anna) Thompson, Jason Crawford, Tricia (Jeff) Beatrice; and six great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Owen Beatrice, Devin and Luca Thompson, and Jace and Zane Crawford.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene “Crete” Crawford in 2014, four sisters, Doris Crawford (2004), Kathryn Cable (2009), Janice Nolan (2009), Velma Noel (2011); and a brother, Clarence Houk (2016).

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 16 from 4 until the time of the funeral service at 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Rev. Keith R. Black, Vitas Hospice Chaplain will officiate the services. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Vitas Hospice, especially Jennifer, and all the caretakers at Blair’s for their kind and compassionate care.
