The 80th Reino Family Reunion the Granddady of them All

On July 2-4, 200 descendants of Guiseppe and Archangela Torre Reina, to the fifth generation, celebrated the 80th Reino Family Reunion at the Emily Cortez Shelter on Bridge Street.

Established in 1936, the Reino Family Reunion has continued non-stop through war, sickness and death of family members. The descendants recognized four family members from the 1936 first reunion, Mary Louise Valvano Tomeo, Lewis “Wally” Valvano, Louis “Butch” Sudano and Rosanna Sudano Sciote.

Guiseppe and Archangela Torre Reina immigrated from Corletto Salerno, Italy, became American citizens, and resided at 216 Line Ave. in Ellwood City.

Their children and their spouses are:

  • Carmella Reino Sudano and Rosario Sudano
  • Dominico “Tom” and Gertrude Reino
  • Anthony “Buck” and Pearl Reino
  • Josephine Reino Valvano and Antonio Valvano
  • Maria Elaina Reino Figurel and Jacob Figurel
  • Pauline Reino Sudano and Nichola Sudano
  • Ronoto “Roney” and Cora Reino
  • Michael Angelo and Barbara Reino

Matthew Cortez said Grace before the Saturday meal and Barbara Reino Mastropietro offered the blessing before the Sunday meal. Barbara recognized Thomas Joseph “Tommy” Reino killed in action in World War II and Angelo Anthony “Champ” Sudano lost at sea in World War II. She also recognized all veterans serving in the military from World War I until today.

Jennifer Gibbons led the games for the children and the adults participated in a variety of activities. A resounding applause honored the current officers and committees.

Lu Lu Iannantuono was present as the official photographer making available a family group photo and individual family photos. The group looked stunning in their black 80th Reino Reunion t-shirts designed and distributed by Dena Streit Noble. The Reino descendants are eagerly anticipating the 81st Family Reunion 2017, the granddaddy of reunions.

Photo submitted.
