CCBC Student Awarded Hayden Juried Purchase Prize for Painting

Monaca, Pa. – The Hayden Juried Purchase Prize in Painting was awarded to student artist Angela Paterchak at this year’s An Evening of the Arts on April 21. Established through the CCBC Foundation, the Purchase Prize awards a $200 annual prize to one student for excellence in oil painting.

Angela’s oil painting entitled “Bob Marley” was chosen by judges Scot Rutledge, Digital Marketing Services Manager at CCBC, and Megan Cassioli, Graphics Specialist at CCBC, as this year’s prize winner.

“All of the submitted artwork was exceptional, but Angela’s stood out due to her skill and color composition,” Rutledge said. “She clearly honed her technique and spent many hours creating this piece of artwork.”

“I appreciate her dynamic use of color and texture. The overall quality of her piece is admirable and caught my eye from across the room,” Cassioli said.

Second place mention went to Jacob Roper, a fine arts major from Ellwood City, for his painting entitled “Clockwork Blue,” and third place mention went to Alexis Stearns, an education major from Freedom, for her painting entitled “Enchantment.”

Angela is currently enrolled in her first semester in the psychology program at CCBC. After she graduates from CCBC, she plans to continue her studies and focus on neuroscience. Her painting is now part of the College’s permanent collection and will be displayed on campus.

“I am honored to be the recipient of the Prize and thrilled that my painting will now be on permanent display at CCBC,” Angela said.

The annual An Evening of the Arts showcases the best artwork from students enrolled in courses in the arts. Student work is displayed and presented in a variety of formats including painting and drawing; poetry and spoken word; digital imaging, web design, interactive design, and animation; photography and videography; and more. Many artworks are available for sale. The artwork will be on display through Commencement on May 5. Several other pieces of Angela’s artwork are also currently on display as part of the show.
