John G. “Jack” Fury, 96, formerly of Hickernell Rd., Ellwood City (Wurtemburg) passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Jameson Care Center after a period of declining health.
John was born in Ellwood City, on April 8, 1920. He was the son of the late Harry and Isabelle Majors Fury.
John attended grade school in Wurtemburg where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938.
He married Goldie Pearl Main on November 4, 1942. They were married for 65 years when she preceded him in death on January 8, 2008.
John served in the US Army during World War II as a radar mechanic and navigator until his honorable discharge in 1946.
He was an accomplished wood crafter. Jack actually built the family home in Wurtemburg. For a time, he was self-employed in the cabinet business. Later, he worked as a rural mail carrier and retired from the US Postal Service.
John loved animals, the outdoors, fishing, and especially his family. He enjoyed their many visits and get-togethers. He made his children and grandchildren many heirlooms that will be cherished forever.
Over the years, John served in many capacities as a member of the Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church as well as attending Park Gate Baptist Church.
John is survived by his five daughters, Carolyn (Bill) Haydo of Hershey, Sharon (Dan) Gill of Sharon, Jackie (Tim) Mattocks of New Castle, Christine Barr of Ellwood City, Gretchen (John) Mansell of Ellwood City; 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Charles Fury and a sister, Alene Nelson.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 12 from 2 until the time of the funeral service at 4 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Pastor Marsha Parrish will officiate the services. Full military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Lillyville Church of God.
