Ruth I. Steckman, 96

Ruth I. Steckman, 96, formerly of Brighton Road, Ellwood City passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 surrounded by her loving family following a short illness.

Born March 11, 1919 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Richard T. and Edna Sloan Stratton. She was married for 39 years to John C. “Jack” Steckman who passed away in 1975.

Ruth and Jack owned and operated Steckman’s Memorial Studio in Ellwood City for many years. She was an avid and accomplished bowler having been inducted in the Ellwood City and the Lawrence County Bowling Halls of Fame. Ruth also enjoyed dancing and was the former treasurer of the “Doe’s Auxiliary” at the ELKS Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherry (Vince) Perciavalle of Beaver, Patricia (Fred) Konyak of Ellwood City, Margaret “Peg” (Larry) Haswell of Wampum; son, Kip (Debra) Steckman of Renfrew; daughter-in-law, Joan Steckman of Ellwood City; sister, Ada Hinkle of Portersville; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter in law, Thomas Steckman (1951) and John (2009) and Kathleen (1996) Steckman; two grandsons, Shawn Steckman (1975), F. Mark Konyak (2012); four brothers, Richard “Bud”, Leighton, Royal, and Harold Stratton; and a sister, Mary Catherine Gossett..

Family and friends will be received Sunday, Nov. 8 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home on 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Keith Black of the Raccoon United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
