Defense has always been a strong suit for the Quips of Aliquippa as once again it is in the 2017 campaign. In a game where the Wolverines had 46 offensive plays, but only 10 total yards of offense on the evening, the Quips proved they have sole possession of the Beaver Valley Conference and is the team to beat in the BVC after putting a 32-0 victory on the board over Ellwood City The first quarter was dominated by the Quips offensive yardage as the Quips held the Wolverines to negative yardage. However, the Quips did not get on the…

Back-to-back: Lady Wolverines Dominant in WPIAL Repeat

Elwood City’s softball team has been a dominant force over WPIAL opponents in recent years, as it carried a carried a 37-game winning streak against such foes into Wednesday’s Class 3A championship game. That dominance continued as the Wolverines scored a convincing 10-0 victory in five innings against Deer Lakes at California University’s Lilley Field. To get that win, the Wolverines (18-0) had to be extremely patient. A rain delay of about 90 minutes during the Class 6A game caused the 3A title tilt to start a little more than 2 1/2 hours after originally scheduled. No problem for the…

Burrell (8-8 overall) took a 2-0 lead in the fifth, backed by pitcher Brittany Dunn, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the Lady Wolverines used a walk and a couple errors in their half of the inning to knot the game at two.
