Sturgeon Captures 1st Place In High Jump At ‘Rock Relays’ On Saturday

Sophomore Delaney Sturgeon captured a 1st place finish in the Girls High Jump at the Slippery Rock University “Rock Relays” on Saturday. The high school invitational took place at the William Lennox Track at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium with teams from more than 40 high schools across the region participating. Sturgeon earned the top podium spot with a final jump of 5’0″ that bested six other athletes who all finished tied at 4’10”. No Ordinary Joe: Ellwood City Man’s Estate Adds To SRU Gift

SLIPPERY ROCK — The largest gift ever contributed by a private individual to Slippery Rock University is even larger than expected. Last year, SRU received a record $1.1 million gift from the estate of Joseph McCandless, who passed away January 14, 2020. The gift total now exceeds $1.8 million with the McCandless estate donating an additional $700,000 on June 24. That means even more money to support SRU students and additional funds to preserve one of the most fascinating buildings on campus. Alden Wetzel Earns WPIAL Gold, Seven Panthers Qualify For PIAA

Riverside Panther runner Alden Wetzel earned WPIAL gold Wednesday, finishing in 1st place in the 400m dash at the WPIAL Individual Championship meet at Slippery Rock University. The junior finished with a time of 49.94 to earn gold. Wetzel also placed 6th in the high jump with a mark of 5’9″. Damato Named A Finalist For Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence

Slippery Rock University this week recognized students and faculty with Celebration of Achievement. Among those is Nikol Damato, a senior dual history and interdisciplinary programs major from Ellwood City. Highlighting the awards is the selection of SRU’s finalist for the Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence, which is given to a graduating senior in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education who exemplifies academic excellence and involvement. LHS Students Compete At Slippery Rock University World Language Competition

SLIPPERY ROCK PA  – This past week, 11 students from French and Spanish classes attended Slippery Rock University’s annual World Language Competition. Students competed against students from a dozen area schools. The tests covered several aspects of language learning including vocabulary, grammar, cultural and geography. Adriana Gonzalez was awarded 3rd place in the Spanish 3 group.
