Club Hope Foundation Sells Pink Out Challenge Shirts for Ellwood vs. Riverside Football

The Club Hope Foundation is selling Pink Out T-Shirts for $10 to be worn for the football games during October. Club Hope is doing a Football Challenge at the Ellwood vs. Riverside game on October 12. A teacher from each school will go on the field at halftime and throw mini-footballs into a garbage can. The teacher that loses has to wear a t-shirt from the other school for the remainder of the game. No Proposed Tax Increase for Riverside School District

Total revenue for Riverside School District is proposed to be $24,608,155 with $24,933,735 in expenditures. The district isn’t proposing a tax increase this year. Top expense categories, which reflect 95 percent of the budget, include wages and benefits, debt service, transportation, tuition, supplies and books, utilities, special education services, substitute services, Questeq, equipment and other costs, comes out to $24.9 million, with $271,368 in budgetary reserve. The budgetary reserve includes health insurance, approved private charter and nonpublic school tuitions as well as technical school tuitions. Ellwood VS. Riverside Tickets on Sale

Student tickets for this Friday’s, Ellwood City Boy’s Varsity Basketball Game versus Riverside are on sale in the high school office. The cost is $2 per ticket. No student tickets will be sold at the door for this game. All tickets at the door will be $5 general admission and $1 for senior citizens.


Syrian Visits Riverside, Discusses Middle Eastern Life With Students

On Thursday, January 18, Mr. Osama Alomar visited Riverside High School to speak to Mrs. Boots’ World Cultures classes, Mrs. Frank’s English classes, and Mrs. Pinchot’s AP Journalism classes. His visit is thanks to a generous grant from the Riverside Community Education Foundation. Mrs. Boots’ World Cultures classes are completing a unit on the Middle East, so had plenty of questions for Mr. Alomar about his life in Syria, his opinion of President Assad, and his assessment of the violence in Syria. Weekly High School Basketball Team Recaps

This week the Ellwood City Boys Varsity team played a very close game against Rochester, defeating them by a mere two points. Rochester took the lead in the second quarter but Ellwood regained control in the third and fourth, ending the game with a close 64-62 victory. Forward Sean Busby was recognized as the “player of the game.” Tonight the Ellwood City Wolverines will face off against their long-time rival, the Panthers at Riverside High School. Riverside Varsity Softball to Host Pancake Breakfast

The Riverside High School Varsity Softball will be hosting a pancake breakfast at Lillyville Church, from 8:30a.m. – 11:30a.m. this Saturday, November 18. There will be a wide variety of pancakes to choose from including buttermilk, buckwheat, blueberry and chocolate chip. There will even be a topping bar! Three baskets will be raffled off including two Panther baskets and one Steelers basket. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for 55+, $5 for veterans, $5 for children 3-10, and free for children under 3.


Riverside, Ellwood City Students to Appear on KDKA’s High Q

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, students from Riverside and Ellwood were at KDKA studios, One Gateway Center in Pittsburgh, for the taping of Home Town High Q. Ellwood students Molly McCommons, Kyle Smith and Noah Rinker and Riverside students Morgan Deiseroth, Ari Kendra and Colby Belczyk represented the schools in the competition. Riverside competed alongside Ellwood City against Waynesburg. The students compete against the rival teams by answering questions over subjects taught in school, similar to how Jeopardy is played. Riverside Football Tickets on Sale

After Riverside successfully defeated Frazier on Friday night, they are now preparing for the second playoff game this Friday Night against Avonworth. The game will be played at Seneca Valley at 7:30p.m. Tickets will be on sale this Wednesday in the high school athletic office from 7:50a.m.-10-50a.m. Then tickets will be sold in the middle school and elementary lunches from 10:50a.m.-12:30p.m. Finally, tickets will be on sale in the athletic office again from 12:30p.m.- 1:30p.m. Student tickets are $5 and adult tickets are $7. All tickets will be $7 at the gate.

Congratulations to the Riverside Football Team for qualifying for the WPIAL playoffs. The team will host Frazier this Friday at 7:30p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.
