Basketball Week Summary: Riverside and Ellwood City Teams All Suffer Conference Losses

The Riverside Lady Panthers experienced their first lost 51-39 to hosting Neshannock in a conference game yesterday on Monday. Riverside started out in the lead, ending the first half 21-12. However, the third quarter was far from their finest moment as the Lady Panthers only saw two points to the Lady Lancers’ 14. A 25-16 final quarter saw Riverside go home defeated for the first time. Stang Leads Lady Panthers in Win Over Beaver Falls

Senior Katie Stang seized the win for Riverside in a conference home game against Beaver Falls yesterday. Both teams were initially bogged down. The first quarter ended only 5-5, with many missed shots between the teams. By the end of the game, the Lady Panthers had collectively missed 36 of 76 shots. However, Riverside was making enough shots to pull ahead by the second quarter, with Stang leading the way. Riverside Girls Narrowly Overcome Quigley Catholic, Defeat Laurel

The Riverside Lady Panthers nearly had their first loss to Quigley Academy on Saturday, Dec. 12. Behind the entire game, Riverside launched a counterattack in the fourth quarter to make up the difference and come out ahead by four points. Katie Stang scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, and Sydney Wolf had 12. Winter Sports Preview 3: With an Experienced Lineup, Lady Panthers Looking to Successful Season

Experience is one thing the Lady Panthers have in abundance. Going into the 2015-16 season, the girls have six seniors fresh from a 19-4 season last year. Having finished 9-3 in their class AA section and advanced to the first round of playoffs, the Riverside girls basketball team is of course aiming for those goals again. After a successful tip off tournament, the Riverside Lady Panthers traveled to Eden Christian Academy on Monday for a win. Riverside defeated ECA 62-21. With a true display of team versatility, four players scored in the double digits: Kaite Stang with 14 points, Ashely Boehm and Sydney Wolf with 11, and Morgan Bailey with 10. Riverside Girls Get the Best of Ellwood at Tip Off Tournament

The Lady Panthers and Lady Wolverines both have an exciting season to look forward to. Both teams are returning the core of their members and both teams advanced to playoffs last season but lost the first game. Ellwood City, Class AAA, is returning five seniors, including lead scorer Karrington Ketterer. Riverside, class AA, returns six seniors.
