Riverside Wins Important Conference Game Against Neshannock

The Riverside girls basketball team is on a drive for the section title. Yesterday, there was one obstacle: Neshannock’s powerful team. However, the Lady Panthers thrashed Neshannock 55-34 in a home game, putting them a half-step ahead in their Class-AA section rankings. Although victory is often expected among a team with a 15-2 record, the girls went into the game knowing Neshannock would be tough competition. Back in December, Neshannock handed Riverside its first taste of defeat in a 51-39 game away game. Weekly Basketball Recap: Ellwood City, Riverside Experience Section Losses

Riverside Girls Win One, Lose Won Defeat isn’t something the Riverside Girl’s basketball team has experienced much this season. The team started with a seven-game winning streak briefly interrupted by Neshannock before going on an eight-game streak. The last game in that streak was against Laurel in a home conference game on Monday, when Riverside won 79-50. Katie Stang and Sydney Wolf both broke 20 points, scoring 23 and 20, with the other half of Riverside’s point distributed among eight players. Weekly Basketball Recap: Ellwood Overcomes 10 Point Deficit For Win Against Beaver

The Ellwood City Wolverines defeated the Beaver Bobcats 61-58 in Tuesday’s home conference game. For most of the game, it didn’t seem Ellwood City would pull through. The Wolverines were left behind as the Bobcasts outscored them 29-19 in the first half. The teams scored an even 16-16 in the third quarter, so Beaver merely had to maintain its lead for the duration of the game. The Lady Wolverines and Lady Panthers clashed at Lincoln High School in a non-conference rivalry game on Tuesday for the LGKG Holiday Classic. Riverside won 53-42. The two teams had started their seasons in a similar manner at the Ellwood City Tip-Off Tournament. As before, Riverside emerged victorious, although the rematch proved to be a closer competition. In the original game, Ellwood fell behind in the second half, losing 50-32. Since then, Riverside has gone on to be nigh undefeated, falling only to Neshannock. Basketball Week Summary: Riverside and Ellwood City Teams All Suffer Conference Losses

The Riverside Lady Panthers experienced their first lost 51-39 to hosting Neshannock in a conference game yesterday on Monday. Riverside started out in the lead, ending the first half 21-12. However, the third quarter was far from their finest moment as the Lady Panthers only saw two points to the Lady Lancers’ 14. A 25-16 final quarter saw Riverside go home defeated for the first time. Riverside’s offense centered around Katie Stang’s 24 points. For the Lady Lancers, Aiden Noga had 19 and Carmie Matarazzo 18. Stang Leads Lady Panthers in Win Over Beaver Falls

Senior Katie Stang seized the win for Riverside in a conference home game against Beaver Falls yesterday. Both teams were initially bogged down. The first quarter ended only 5-5, with many missed shots between the teams. By the end of the game, the Lady Panthers had collectively missed 36 of 76 shots. However, Riverside was making enough shots to pull ahead by the second quarter, with Stang leading the way. The Riverside Lady Panthers nearly had their first loss to Quigley Academy on Saturday, Dec. 12. Behind the entire game, Riverside launched a counterattack in the fourth quarter to make up the difference and come out ahead by four points. Katie Stang scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, and Sydney Wolf had 12. After the non-conference victory, Riverside traveled to Laurel for a section game on Monday, once again emerging victorious 58-38. Experience is one thing the Lady Panthers have in abundance. Going into the 2015-16 season, the girls have six seniors fresh from a 19-4 season last year. Having finished 9-3 in their class AA section and advanced to the first round of playoffs, the Riverside girls basketball team is of course aiming for those goals again. After a successful tip off tournament, the Riverside Lady Panthers traveled to Eden Christian Academy on Monday for a win. Riverside defeated ECA 62-21. With a true display of team versatility, four players scored in the double digits: Kaite Stang with 14 points, Ashely Boehm and Sydney Wolf with 11, and Morgan Bailey with 10. Riverside Girls Get the Best of Ellwood at Tip Off Tournament

The Lady Panthers and Lady Wolverines both have an exciting season to look forward to. Both teams are returning the core of their members and both teams advanced to playoffs last season but lost the first game. Ellwood City, Class AAA, is returning five seniors, including lead scorer Karrington Ketterer. Riverside, class AA, returns six seniors.
