Riverside Panthers Finish 15th Overall In WPIAL Class 2A Swimming Championships

The Riverside Panthers boys swim team placed 15th Overall in the WPIAL Class 2A Swimming & Diving Championships that took place Thursday and Friday at Treas Pool on campus at the University of Pittsburgh. The Panthers relay team shined with a top-10 finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. The team qualified both the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay for the PIAA state championships. PHOTOS: Riverside Swimming Captures Section Crown, Next Stop WPIAL Championships

The Riverside boys earned a WPIAL Section 2-AA crown last Wednesday with its senior night victory over Central Valley. This is the 21st Section Title in the program’s history. The boys overall section record is 6-1 with its lone loss to Quaker Valley. “We lost the section title last year by one point, so this will not be a consecutive title but still a major success for our boys team of only eight swimmers,” says head coach Alaina Marshall. Riverside Swimming Wraps Up Its Appearance In PIAA State Championships

The Riverside Swimming team competed in the PIAA State Championships this past weekend at Bucknell University. “My assistant, David Peffer, and I are beyond proud of how our boys did this past weekend,” said head coach Alaina Marshall. “The bar at the competition level continues to be raised every year and our small team remains competitive amongst the best of them.” On Saturday, senior Joseph Roth broke his own 100-Yard Backstroke state record at finals with a time of 48.34, but was just out-touched at the finish by Luke Lamb of North Catholic. Riverside Finishes 7th In WPIAL Swimming Championships, Roth Earns Two Silver Medals

Panther swimmers Peter Ruggeri, Nick Young, Nathan Goff, Gavin Frederick, Michael Styn, Ryan Turner, and Joseph Roth represented Riverside High School this past weekend at the WPIAL Class 2A Swimming Championships. Riverside placed 7th overall with a combined total of 126 points after two days of competition in the championships held at the University of Pittsburgh’s Trees Pool on February 29th and March 1st. “Our boys fell short of some of the goals we had set our sights on this season,” said coach Alaina Marshall afterwards. The Riverside boys team had their first official section meet of the season against Blackhawk last Thursday and, as expected, tensions were high and the cheering was loud. Although an individual team record was set and a relay team collected a major victory, the Riverside boys narrowly fell to Blackhawk 88-87. Senior Sam Kline leads a host of four Riverside swimmers who have qualified and will participate in the PIAA Class 2A State Swimming Championships this week at the Kinney Natatorium at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA The Riverside swim team also sends two relay teams to the Class 2A championships scheduled to take place March 15th and 16th. The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday August 10, 2022, and recognized student athletes from Lincoln and Riverside Schools for their accomplishments these past school years. The Club recognizes local citizens who excel in their school or perform volunteer work in the community, epitomizing the Clubs moto: “Pro Bono Publico”-For the Good of the Public. Riverside Claims PIAA State Relay Championships; Roth Sets State Record

Led by two relay state titles and a dominating individual performance by Joseph Roth, Riverside finished second overall in the Class-2A PIAA Swimming Championships at Bucknell University. On Friday, the Panther relay team collected a state title in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
