Donation Made To ECPD K9 Fund and Youth Bureau Program

A $5,000 donation through the efforts of the KC Venezie Charitable Foundation and Mayor Anthony J. Court was made this week to the Ellwood City Police Department K9 Fund and Youth Bureau Program. The donation was provided to help support the police departments programs that assist with community protection and safety. Municipal Women’s Club Hosts New K9 Officer During January Meeting

The Ellwood City Municipal Women’s Club hosted the newest Ellwood City K9 Officer “Nico” as part of its January meeting last month. The K9 and his handler Officer Rich Kruger put together a wonderful demonstration of Nico’s skills for the members in attendance. The program was hosted by membership chairman Joanne Lowrie. Council Approves New Server for Police Department

Ellwood City Borough Council approved the quote for a Microsoft SQL Server (license & software) for the police department. The $7,254.74 quote approval will allow the police department to upgrade their server, which houses vital information regarding arrests, etc. According to Officer Josh Sipe, the current server dates to 2013. He said it is slow and poses an issue when it comes to safely storing important information that is required by the state. Borough Approves Liquor License Transfer to El Canelo IX, LLC; Mayor Names New K9 Officer

Ellwood City Borough Council voted to approve the intermunicipal transfer of restaurant liquor license #R-17325 to El Canelo IX, LLC. El Canelo opened in Ellwood City at 1226 Lawrence Ave in October and has been serving Mexican food in Lawrence County since 2001. The manager of the restaurant, Antonio Porras, said at a January 10 council meeting that the license will be a great addition to help serve delicious beverages at the Ellwood City location. Ellwood City Police Department to Get K9

Ellwood City Borough Council voted Monday night to purchase a police K9. Officials moved to approve a quote from Shallow Creek Kennels for $15,000. In addition to the dog, the price includes a six-week handler course, manuals, and handouts. The new K9 will be paid from the K9 fund. This is a victory for the police department and Mayor Anthony Court, who have been pushing council for the move. The decision to implement the K9 was unanimous. ECPD Introduces New Vehicle For K-9 Program

The Ellwood City Police Department brought home its new police K9 vehicle this week. The 2021 Dodge Charger was purchased utilizing funds raised through Reed Services as well as assistance other generous donors and fundraisers. Reed Services, Sgt. Unchained K9 Links Up To Ellwood City

Unchained K9 is a new, underground dog fence company local to Ellwood City. Dogs will wear a collar with radio frequency that alerts them when they try to approach/cross the underground wire. Owners Jim and Geri Lynn Cummings had come into this business on a whim. They had an underground dog fence for 11 years prior, and when they got a new puppy, it needed to be serviced.
