FBI Raids Americore Hospital in Ellwood City

According to a LeeDaily.com article and many local news reports, nearly two dozen FBI agents recently raided Ellwood City Medical Center, the now-closed Pennsylvania hospital owned by Americore Health. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court told WPXI that the agents “carried out boxes and boxes of material from the medical center” late last week. Investigations Continue to Ramp Up At Ellwood City Medical Center

According to a LeeDaily.com article and a local news report, information surfaced over the weekend that the Pennsylvania Department of Health is investigating possible code violations at Ellwood City Medical Center. During an inspection last week, it has been reported that state inspectors found large amounts of biohazardous waste stored improperly in a shed on the hospital grounds. Investigation Underway Into Americore Finances

According to multiple news reports and websites on Friday, a search warrant served by the Lawrence County District Attorney offices has opened up the investigation into the finances of Florida-based Americore and CEO Grant White. According to a published New Castle News report, the affidavit highlights interviews “management level personnel who have direct knowledge of the financial distress at ECMC.” It clearly showcases Americore Health and its problems making payroll starting in August. VIDEO: Lawmaker Calls For Investigation Into Ellwood Medical Center

Employees are still on the job, keeping the Ellwood City Medical Center open and safe, but without pay.  This may change as state and Lawrence County lawmakers are now calling for an investigation into the medical center. Last week, employees finally received good checks owed before Christmas – two weeks late – amid a series of recently reported payroll problems. Florida Company Promises Better Future for Ellwood City Hospital

The Ellwood City Hospital has changed many times since its official opening in 1910, but has only recently been struggling to keep the doors open over the past couple decades. The facility is now looking forward to a brighter future after being sold to Americore Health LLC, a Florida based company specializing in acquiring and managing rural hospitals.
