Ellwood City Area Public Library Activities for Week of June 26, 2017

Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Monday, June 26, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” designed to help reduce the stresses of everyday life. BC3’s 2017 Regfest: Free Sunglasses for Bright Futures

Two-day July event offers prizes, beachy atmosphere to prep for enrollment. (Butler, PA) Current or prospective students attending Butler County Community College’s third RegFest can apply for admission and financial aid, register for classes, and receive academic advising — and gifts — in a “fun, relaxed” setting, according to Amy Pignatore, BC3’s director of records and registration. Summer Paving Contract Approved

Ellwood City council members unanimously voted yesterday to approve the 2017 summer paving contract with Wampum-based Youngblood Paving. Over a hundred-thousand less than last years paving project, the $239,778.86 contract is expected to cover the expenses to pave 17 blocks of streets, including the entire length of Pittsburgh Circle. 11 Blocks of Pittsburgh Circle, Glen Avenue for one block from Keystone Way to Pittsburgh Circle, three blocks of First Avenue from North Street to Gregg Street, and two blocks of Gregg Street from Wampum Avenue to First Avenue are to be repaved. Disability Options Network to Host Free Workshop

(New Castle, PA) – Disability Options Network will host a free workshop for parents in support of students transitioning from high school to employment on Wednesday, June 28, at Career Link from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. This workshop will cover independent living and self- advocacy and how to get there, using a student’s IEP to get to employment, an overview of the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) programs for transition age youth (14 to 21), and a brief look at disability laws. Senator Vogel to Host Veterans’ Specialist at New Castle District Office

Senator Vogel announced today that he will host a veterans’ specialist in his New Castle District Office to assist constituents with various issues related to their military service. Stephanie Bengoa of the American Legion Veterans Assistance Program will be available on Wednesday, June 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Senator Vogel’s New Castle Office (1905 W State St New Castle). YMCA Activities at the Ellwood City Veterans’ Memorial Pool

Since the Ellwood City Veterans’ Memorial Pool is a hot-spot for activity during the summer months, The Beaver County YMCA will be hosting classes, lessons, and events throughout the summer season. “This is a prime opportunity for community members, especially those with children, to partake in social and beneficial activities while still having loads of fun,” a YMCA team member said. Ellwood City has never seen so purple in it’s life – the Relay for Life event which took place on Saturday, June 10, was a success according to Relay for Life member, Jackie Kline. “We had a good turn out and lot’s of support from the local community, I think overall the event was a success and we hope it’ll get even bigger in the years to come.” This was the first Relay for Life that took place in downtown Ellwood, in previous years the event was hosted at Helling Stadium. Along with Relay For Life moving to downtown Ellwood City, an idea formed about doing a sidewalk chalk art contest.  Team North Sewickley Walkers took the challenge on putting together this first time event.  As Saturday June 10, 2017 dawned relayers awoke to thunder and rain, upon arriving downtown Lawrence avenue our sidewalk area was wet.  We hope it will dry by noon or the chalk may not write on the squares, thank goodness it dried.  The young artist started to register at noon and went right away to work creating their works of art each with a bag of…
