Fundraising for Local High School Student in Pool Accident

Anthony Tollari is a high school student at Riverside who was in a pool-related accident nearly two weeks ago that has left him partially paralyzed. “After a Colt League Championship baseball defeat, Anthony was at his home, and dove into his pool. He landed extremely awkward, and broke his neck. He was rushed to the hospital, and had to have emergency surgery to save his life. Anthony is now in a facility for at least two months to attempt to regain his feeling and mobility,” his GoFundMe page states. Mayor Meets with Residents on National Community Night Out

On Tuesday, August 1, 2017 Mayor Anthony J. Court and Lt. David Kingston of the Ellwood City Police Department participated in “The National Community Night Out” meeting and greeting residents throughout Ellwood City. VIDEO: Blue Jeans Celebrates Fifth Birthday at Living Treasures

Today, a crowd of zoo-goers wished Blue Jeans, one of the giraffes at Living Treasures Moraine, a Happy Birthday and presented her a birthday treat. Living Treasures is known for their exotic animal encounters and occasional events like this; they recently celebrated their “Christmas in July” event where the animals received Christmas-themed treats and activities throughout the day. Join the birthday celebration and wish Blue Jeans a happy birthday today at the park, which will be open until 8p.m. this evening. Ride to Benefit Special Needs Children

The God Chasers Motorcycle Club is hosting their annual ride to benefit children with special needs on July 29, starting at 12p.m. Every penny of the funds raised goes to the Lawrence County Special Olympics. Third Street Resident Wins Final Beautification Award

On Tuesday, Mayor Anthony J. Court presented to Ronalyn Parsons of 3rd Street, Ellwood City with the 6th and final 2017 Beautification Award Winner sign and gift certificate. Over thirty youth enjoyed a program on yoga presented Tuesday evening by Ashley Smith, a yoga instructor from Ellwood City, as part of the enrichment component added to the youth’s daily arts and crafts projects supervised by Joseph Cioffi. Art on the Avenue: Celebration of the Arts

The library is hosting an Art on the Avenue: Celebration of the Arts event on Friday, July 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. This is the library’s second annual Celebration of the Arts; last year, they hosted a wonderful author fair with 250 people in attendance. This year’s event will be very similar in nature; 28 local artists will be participating and will be placed around the library in an easy-for-folks-to-browse style. Local Boxer Prepares for First Professional Match

Rosalindo Morales Jr. is a 23 year old graduate of Lincoln High who has been pursuing a boxing career since the young age of 13. After starting boxing as a hobby at the Ellwood City Police Boxing Club, his dedication towards the sport finally paid off when he was recently signed to professionally box full time. “Being professional has been my main goal since I started.
