ELLWOOD Hosts 19th Annual High School Engineering Day At EC Forge

ELLWOOD, in partnership with Lawrence County School-to-Work, hosted their 19th annual High School Engineering Day on Thursday, March 6, at ELLWOOD’s New Castle campus. Over 30 students from area high schools visited the ELLWOOD location to learn about engineering careers, tour the New Castle campus, and more. ELLWOOD Celebrates Manufacturing Week With Visits To Lawrence County Schools

This past week, representatives from ELLWOOD celebrated Manufacturing Week with a visit to a number of schools throughout Lawrence County. The tour is a lead-up to today’s National Manufacturing Day that is celebrated each year on the first Friday in October. ELLWOOD partners with Lawrence County School-to-Work to coordinate the effort, reaching hundreds of students and raising awareness of the many manufacturing career opportunities available in the community. ELLWOOD Announces New President Of Ellwood Specialty Metals

New Castle, PA – ELLWOOD this week announced a change in leadership at ELLWOOD Specialty Metals (ESM), with the promotion of ELLWOOD executive Mark Kaszer to President effective January 1, 2025. Kaszer will succeed outgoing president Judy Shaffer who earlier this year announced her year-end retirement. Kaszer is a 16-year veteran of ELLWOOD and currently serves as Vice President of Sales for ESM, the leading distributor of tool steels and aluminum for plastic molds, die casting, forging dies, and other tooling applications. Ellwood Quality Steels Celebrates Milestone

ELLWOOD Quality Steels (EQS) on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, celebrated a significant milestone by producing the 250,000th heat in the melt shop that opened in 1985. A heat is a batch of steel that is melted in the 45-ton electric arc furnace and poured into molds to create bottom-poured ingots. Upstart Manufacturers Coalition Awarded $236,000 Grant from PA Dept of Labor and Industry

MERCER – A collaboration of local manufacturers, including two from Ellwood City, working together to address shared workforce development challenges was awarded a $236,786 grant from the Industry Partnership program of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. The award was announced by Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer). The Lawrence Mercer Manufacturers Coalition (LMMC) was formed in 2023 by founding members Berner International, Blair Strip Steel Company, ELLWOOD, G.W. Becker, Inc., Hall Industries and Wheatland Steel Processing. Club Hope Foundation Sells Pink Out Challenge Shirts for Ellwood vs. Riverside Football

The Club Hope Foundation is selling Pink Out T-Shirts for $10 to be worn for the football games during October. Club Hope is doing a Football Challenge at the Ellwood vs. Riverside game on October 12. A teacher from each school will go on the field at halftime and throw mini-footballs into a garbage can. The teacher that loses has to wear a t-shirt from the other school for the remainder of the game. House Approves Bernstine Bill to Help Seniors Stay in Their Homes

HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives Monday unanimously approved legislation, authored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence), which would make it easier for seniors to maintain their independence and receive care in their homes. “A disparity in Pennsylvania law is limiting access to in-home care and actually forcing some seniors into nursing homes when home care would have been more appropriate, preferred and less expensive,” Bernstine said. Currently, when an individual applies for Medicaid, he or she can be “presumed eligible” for nursing home services and receive those services immediately while their Medicaid application is being fully reviewed.
