Ellwood City Woman Most Senior of BC3’s Largest Class Since 2000

(Butler, PA) An Ellwood City grandmother of three was the most senior of the 596 graduates in Butler County Community College’s Class of 2017. Kathie Potemra, 63, of Park Avenue, earned an associate of applied science degree in office administration-medical from BC3. She attended BC3 at Lawrence Crossing in New Castle, BC3’s main campus and took courses online. For the past six years, Mayor Court has presented to area residents a special “Beautification Award” sign along with a local restaurant gift certificate. Notice of Tax Office Hours

As of June the tax office located inside the municipal builiding will be open only one day a week, Wednesday, from 10a.m.-3p.m. In July, after school taxes come out, the office will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10a.m.-3p.m.


Ellwood City Farmers’ Market Set to Open for the Season

The Ellwood City Farmers Market located at the The Beaver Avenue Parking Lot (500 Block) will be opening again for the season starting this Saturday, June 3. A wide variety of things will be sold at the market mostly including homemade and organic items and food. The market will run every Saturday during the summer through October 7th from 8:00a.m. until noon. Live music from 9:00 – 11:00a.m. Free parking downtown.


Mayor Warns of IRS Phone Scam

Mayor Court has received several phone calls from residents about the “IRS” asking for money for back taxes. Once again several residents (especially elderly residents) are being targeted by phone calls stating that they owe the IRS money for back taxes or fees due to them. The caller tells the resident they must return their call or the IRS (SCAMMER) will begin the procedure to prosecute them for money owed. Lawrence County Commissioners to Vote on Allocation Among 9 Local Municipalities

With nearly $600,000 in funding requests but with only slightly above $100,000 in available funds for 2017, the Lawrence County Commissioners will be voting on where $84,500 will be allocated among nine municipalities in Lawrence County. Due to the counties responsibility to maintain only 27 bridges and no roads, the county commonly has an excess of revenue funded by Pennsylvania’s gasoline tax. They often use the excess for distribution among the local municipalities for liquid fuel-eligible projects. 6th Graders Participate in Array of Fun Activities at the Park-A-Palooza

The Chamber of Commerce held their annual Ewing Park-A-Palooza May 15 for all 6th graders from Hartman and Riverside. There were ten stations for the students to visit, designed to enhance the learning experience for the students in an alternative setting presented by volunteers. The students participate in several physical activities provided by the staff of Air Fitness that encourages team building and fitness. NORTH SEWICKLEY TWP. –The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II, through their scholarship program, continues to honor the achievements of outstanding Lincoln and Riverside High School seniors by encouraging them to pursue their dreams through higher education.
