Hospital to Host Dunkin’ Truck for National Emergency Medical Services Recognition Week

In honor of National Emergency Medical Services Recognition Week and all the local workers, the Ellwood City Medical Center will be hosting the Dunkin’ Donuts catering truck Friday morning from 8 to 11 a.m. “We at Ellwood City Medical Center are recognizing the dedication and commitment of our local Emergency Responders and staff to helping those in their most desperate time of need by providing a small token of our appreciation,” said Victoria Gatto, marketing manager at the medical center. Hospital Develops Niche Services, Adds Doctors

The best way to support the Ellwood City Medical Center and its employees is to use it for services. According to the Medical Center’s Marketing Manager Victoria Gatto, a 14-year employee, that is vital to the hospital’s future. “We are still open,” she said. “We still have great employees here ready to treat and serve you.” Gatto said general hospital services such as x-rays and blood work are all services that will help the hospital start to generate positive cash flow. Hospital Zoning District Vote To Be Held In May

During a public hearing Monday night, Ellwood City Council voted to advertise an amendment to the zoning ordinance and map regarding the Ellwood City Medical Center. A formal vote to create a zoning district could come as early as the May 20 council meeting. The only speaker during the meeting was Benjamin Steinberg an attorney representing Penn Med LLC, a lender who is seeking a more than $5 million judgement against Americore Health LLC, Ellwood Medical Center LLC, and Ellwood Medical Center Real Estate LLC. Ellwood City Medical Center Offering Kidney Classes

As part of its outreach efforts, Ellwood City Medical Center will be hosting “Kidney Smart Classes.” Victoria Gatto, the center’s marketing manager, said this is just one of the programs being offered to help the hospital connect with the community. “At Ellwood City Medical Center we want to provide health education to community members to be able to take charge of their health, whether it be preventative or disease management,” Gatto said. Investigation Underway Into Americore Finances

According to multiple news reports and websites on Friday, a search warrant served by the Lawrence County District Attorney offices has opened up the investigation into the finances of Florida-based Americore and CEO Grant White. According to a published New Castle News report, the affidavit highlights interviews “management level personnel who have direct knowledge of the financial distress at ECMC.” It clearly showcases Americore Health and its problems making payroll starting in August. VIDEO: Ellwood City Medical Center Latest, GoFundMe Created

KDKA reporter Ralph Iannotti once again brought recent details in a video posted over the weekend following the “on-again, off-again payroll mess” at the Ellwood City Medical Center. According to the video report, the medical center failed to pay its December electric bill, which has cause some in the community to want to take action. WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (PA-16) today sent an official letter to the U.S. Department of Labor to help ensure a speedy resolution to recent paycheck problems for employees at Ellwood City Hospital in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. VIDEO: Lawmaker Calls For Investigation Into Ellwood Medical Center

Employees are still on the job, keeping the Ellwood City Medical Center open and safe, but without pay.  This may change as state and Lawrence County lawmakers are now calling for an investigation into the medical center. Last week, employees finally received good checks owed before Christmas – two weeks late – amid a series of recently reported payroll problems. A KDKA-TV news van was parked just outside the Ellwood City Medical Center entrance this morning, with video equipment staging what could be another news update on the status of what has become regional news this week. Multiple Pittsburgh-based media sources have reported on the small, financially struggling western Pennsylvania hospital that has delayed paying its workers and now the works may find themselves without health insurance. Ellwood City Medical Center Pays Off Debts To Borough

As of Tuesday, December 4, the debts to the Borough of Ellwood City have been cleared for the struggling Ellwood City Medical Center. Joe Cioffi, Ellwood City’s interim borough manager, confirmed that two checks had arrived on Tuesday on behalf of the Florida-based company Americore Health LLC, the owner of the medical center,  that had paid off the hospital’s existing debt with the borough. According to Cioffi, Fidelity National Title Insurance Co. of Chicago wrote the checks. The company had closed on a refinancing deal with Americore last week.
