Fire Department to Start Advanced Life Support Program with Ellwood City Community Health Foundation Funding, Council Support

The Ellwood City Community Health Foundation presented the Ellwood City Fire Department a check for $175,000 during Monday’s council meeting. Council voted unanimously to advertise an ordinance creating an Advanced Life Support Program, as well as an agreement that the program will be partially funded by the Health Foundation’s funding. In an additional move to staff the program and provide services to the residents of Ellwood City, council established the wage for part-time paramedics and a full-time paramedic captain as $20 per hour. Ellwood City Fire Department To Host Town Hall Meeting On Monday

The Ellwood City Fire Department will host a town hall meeting on Monday. The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and in regards to a tax referendum question borough residents will answer on the November 8 election.  The question is: Would you accept a new one mill tax in order to pay for advanced life support services? The meeting will take place at the fire hall located 411 6th Street. If passed, the fire department would be able to hire a 24/7 licensed paramedic position to the force. Ellwood City Community Health Foundation Grants Money to Ellwood City Fire Department

The old Hospital Foundation, now known as The Ellwood City Community Health Association, has donated $57,772.10 to the Ellwood City Volunteer Fire Department to assist with equipment for the QRS (Quick Response Service). The fire department responds to medical emergencies in the borough and stabilizes patients until an EMS unit can get on scene. When the former Ellwood City Hospital was purchased by Americore Holdings in 2017 it became a for-profit entity therefore they were not able to donate money to them any longer, and from 2017-2020 the foundation went through the process to become a separate non-profit entity. Ellwood City Fire Department will host their monthly CPR/AED and First Aid class on Wednesday April 6th at 6:30 p.m. The class will take place at the fire station, located at 411 6th Street, Ellwood City, PA 16117 The class teaches American Heart Association Courses. BLS for Healthcare providers, Heartsaver for the Public, Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid for the Preschool and Day Care providers. Pre-registration is required. Ellwood City Fire Chief Completes Top Tier Training

Ellwood City Fire Department Offering CPR/AED Class

The Ellwood City Fire Department is offering its monthly CPR/AED Class and First Aid class next week. The class is schedule to take place Wednesday September, 15th at 6:00 p.m. at the Ellwood City Fire Department fire station. ECFD offers American Heart Association courses, BLS Healthcare provider, Heartsaver for the general public, and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid for teachers and staff of preschools and day cares. Toys For Tots Fundraiser A Success Among Borough Departments

With the pandemic taking away so much from children this year, the Borough of Ellwood City wanted to help make sure Christmas was not on the list. The borough held a Toys for Tots challenge among their departments over the holidays and generosity kicked into high gear.
