ECASD Board of Directors Enacts Policy for Booster Organizations

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to enact policy 915 Parent/Guardian Booster/Support Organizations Thursday evening. Policy 915 is as follows: The Board recognizes the need for and the role of parent/guardian or community-based booster organizations to support the District’s academic, athletic and extracurricular activities. The Board also desires that all parent/guardian and booster organizations work together cooperatively for the best interests of students. Authority It is the responsibility of the Superintendent and the Board to recognize school-related organizations and to approve their activities. ECASD Board of Directors Hires Track Coaches

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Alan Marsh and Nathan Brown to serve as co-head varsity track coaches during its February 10 meeting. Historically, the track team had one head coach and four assistant coaches. Because of the hiring of co-head coaches, the team will have only three assistants this year, according to ECASD Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley. ECASD Public Meeting Notice Change

According to information made available by the district, the Ellwood City Area Board of Directors has changed the location of their Regular Board Meeting scheduled on March 10, 2022. The meeting will now take place at the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC) located at 750 Phelps Way, New Castle, PA 16101. Council Takes Step to Recoup Funds Owed by Former Medical Center

Ellwood City Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution to collect $450,000 in delinquent utility bills and taxes owed by the former Ellwood City Medical Center. Pelorus Equity Group Inc. is the current owner of that debt. “This is a good step forward toward resolution with this property,” said Borough Manager David Allen. Allen explained that this is simply the first step in the process to regain the delinquent funds. The next step, he said is Federal Court. Biehls, Rozanski to Lead ECASD Board; Pitrelli Appointed to Vacant Seat

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors held its reorganization and regular voting meeting Thursday night. Current Board President Jean Biehls was again named president in a unanimous vote as was Board Vice President Gary Rozanski. They will lead the board in 2022. ECASD: Mask Requirement to Continue

Although Governor Tom Wolf announced a possible end to the mask mandate in schools, the filing of an appeal has forced the Ellwood City Area School District to stay the course and require masks to be worn. During Thursday evening’s board of directors meeting, Superintendent Wesley Shipley said that appeal locked the mandate back in place. “Until January 17 the mask mandate will stay in place,” he said. Parents Demand Change for Football Program

A group of parents urged the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors to consider naming a new head coach for the football program. The parents place the blame for three seasons in a row with a losing streak to current head coach Joe Lamenza. The main complaint expressed was a lack of inspiration and encouragement. The parents claim that the environment of losing has had a severe impact on the mental health of the players and that it is preventing future generations of players from wanting to play.
