Ellwood City School District’s Board of Directors Names New President, Vice President

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors held it’s combined voting and reorganization meeting Thursday night. During the reorganization meeting, Kathy McCommons was named board president, with support from Directors Norman Boots, Renee Pitrelli, Jennifer Tomon, and Kathy Tillia. Jean Biehls was also nominated with support of Directors Erica Gray, Claire Fauzey, and Gary Rozanski. Biehls had served as board president previously. ECASD Board of Directors Approves Bids for the Perry School Project

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to approve bids for the Perry School project with a total bid summary cost of $10,348,578.00—a cost which includes an asbestos package. Engineers from HHSDR and CJL Engineering presented the bids and options during Thursday’s regular meeting. Included in the project will be all new electrical, HVAC, plumbing, asbestos removal, a new roof, a four-classroom addition, a nurse suite addition, new flooring, painting, new windows, fixture upgrades, and other necessary construction to bring the 1933 building up to code. HHSDR Provides Helling Stadium Update, Presents Proposal for Perry Lower Renovations

Representatives from HHSDR Architects/Engineers announced during Thursday night’s Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting that construction is on track at Helling Stadium for the proposed September 28 completion date. They said that all the “in the mud” type work is finished. They expect the turf work to begin after Aug 8, which is the expected arrival date of the materials. ECASD Board of Directors Hires Boys Basketball Head Coach

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Scott Dibble to serve as the head boys basketball coach. In 2019, Dibble stepped down after serving for two seasons as Bishop Canevin’s girls basketball head coach and two years previously as an assistant. The Crusaders won WPIAL titles three of the four years and were state runners-up in 2017 and 2018. He also coached the girls teams for three seasons at New Castle and a dozen at Erie’s Villa Maria, where his teams reached the finals six times. ECASD Board of Directors Puts Hold on Stadium Lights

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors decided during its Thursday Agenda Meeting to put the purchase of new lighting for Helling Stadium on hold. Dr. Wesley Shipley, school superintendent, said that the project was quoted by Musco lighting at a cost of at minimum $275,000. He said the “Cadillac” lighting system would cost the district at least $344,000. The lighting was not included in the original $2,562,405 budget for the stadium project.
