PHOTO: Austin Walley Signs With Bucknell University

Wrestling standout and Ellwood City student-athlete Austin Walley has signed his letter of intent to wrestle at Bucknell University.  Walley signed Wednesday morning at Lincoln High School as part of NCAA Division 1 National Signing Day. Walley finished his junior season with a 36-5 overall record and finished 4th overall in the 182-pound weight class in the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Tournament held at the Hershey in March. Two Ellwood City Wrestlers Advance to PIAA State Championships

Two Ellwood City wrestlers have advanced to Hershey PIAA State AA Wrestling Championships.  Austin Walley collected a PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional runner up finish in the 182-pound weight class while fellow Wolverine Donavin Chambers placed 4th in his 132-pound weight class. Walley (33-3) earned an impressive come-from-behind victory over No. 2 Derek Yingling of West Branch in the semifinals to set-up a rematch with Mount Pleasant’s Dayton Pitzer in the 182-pound championship.  Pitzer had defeated Walley one week early in the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament. Three Ellwood Wrestlers Place At WPIAL Tournament, Advance To Regionals

Three Ellwood City wrestlers medaled at the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament this past weekend and all will advance to the PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional tournament at the Ed Frey Arena, Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday. Three local wrestlers placed at the 6th Annual Mercer Invitational VFW Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. Wrestling Team Competes In South Side Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City wrestling team was one of 14 teams that competed in the South Side Beaver Duals Tournament this past Saturday. The team had some individual success but were hampered by no contest forfeits as a team leaving the team winless in the tournament. The Wolverines fell to Cambridge Springs (58-9), Blackhawk (36-24), Lakeview (23-21), Penn Cambria (60-21), and West Greene (34-22). Alberts, Walley Collect MAC Wrestling Championships

Wolverine wrestlers Jake Alberts and Austin Walley collected victories and championships on Saturday at the Ed Driscoll MAC tournament at Freedom High School. Walley was also voted Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 16-team tournament. In the 120 pound Championship Jake Alberts defeated Anthony Maiure, Mars, 14-7 while Austin Walley defeated Bryson Miller, of Freedom, 3-2 in the 182 pound Championship.  Wolverine Donavin Chambers fell to Daniel Yetsick, of Ambridge, in his third place 138-pound contest, finishing fourth. Two Wolverine Wrestlers Place In Holiday Tournament

Last Thursday and Friday the Ellwood City Wrestling team traveled to Southmoreland to compete in their Holiday Classic tournament.  Austin Walley placed 2nd (182 pounds) and Donavin Chambers placed 3rd (138 pounds) Participating schools includes Bedford, Bethel Park, Burgettstown, Butler, Beth Cener, Chartiers Houston,  Elwood City, Frazier, Fort Cherry, Greensburg Salem, Hermitage, Indian Land (SC), Jefferson Morgan, Lee Davis (VA),  Ligonier Valley, Marion Center, Mt. Pleasant, Meyersdale, Northern Bedford,  North Star, Somerset, Southmoreland, South Park, South Side, Tussey Mountain, United, Union City, Upper St. Clair, and Valley. Ellwood City Wrestling Team Has Early Success

This past weekend, the Ellwood City varsity boys wrestling team began their 2018-2019 season at the 22-team Hickory Invitational. The wrestling team is lead by seniors Jake Alberts and Donavin Chambers, along with their teammates Austin Walley, Donavin Chambers and Zach Polojoic. At the weekend invitational, Walley took first place in his 182-pound class, collecting a 15-3 decision over Elijah Ayers (Coudersport) while Chambers placed second in his 138-pound final, falling 7-2 in the finals. Wrestling Meeting To Be Held Monday

There will be a wrestling meeting for all parents with students in grades 7-12 at Riverside and Ellwood City who are interested in wrestling.   The meeting on Monday, November 19 beginning at 6:00pm. The meeting will take place in the Ellwood City School District cafeteria.  All interested in wrestling are welcome to attend the public meeting.
