Wednesday evening’s game between Ellwood City and Mohawk at Stiefel Park had a playoff feel even though it was just the second section game for both squads. Both pre-season favorites to compete for the section crown entered the game with 0-1 section records and the winner would jump right back into the section race while the loser would be in a deeper hole. Both Ellwood City and Riverside softball teams will enter their 2023 regular season campaigns with sights set on returning to the WPIAL Playoffs, continuing streaks for both teams. For the Lady Wolverines, a playoff streak currently rests at eight straight seasons, and the girls will look to it nine this spring. Rozanski to Stay as Head Coach of Wolverine Softball

Gary Rozanski Jr. will remain the head coach of the girls varsity softball team at Lincoln High School. During the November 14th Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting, a group of parents—many of whose children are involved in a youth program not affiliated with the district and have not been coached by Rozanski—demanded consideration of a new varsity softball coach. It was announced at the December 5 directors meeting that Rozanski will stay on as coach. Ariana Garroway was an RBI machine on Monday, driving in four runs on three hits while Natalia Greco slugged a homerun to power the Wolverines past North Catholic 9-6 on Monday. After a losing effort on Thursday against Ambridge, the Lady Wolverines got back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they beat Shenango 14-2 on the Wildcats home turf.  The game was much closer than the final score as the Wolverines held a slim 3-2 lead until the fifth inning. Lincoln High School Senior Ariana Garroway has decided to continue her softball career by signing with Robert Morris University.
