Lady Panthers Best Rival Ellwood City 54-50

The Lady Panthers bested rival Ellwood City 54-50 Monday evening at Riverside High School. Camryn Friello connected on four 3-pointers, including two in a pivotal fourth quarter, en route to her game-high 16 points to lead Riverside. Riverside entered the final quarter trailing by two points, but used a six point cushion in the frame to come out ahead for the victory. Plassmeyer Pours In 25 To Lead Riverside; Wolverines Split With Hopewell

McCartney Plassmeyer poured in a game high 25 points Monday evening to lead Riverside to a 59-44 victory over Western Beaver. The 6’1′ junior guard connected on two 3-pointers and posted 14 first half points as the Panthers jumped out to a 28-22 halftime advantage. A decisive 16-7 third quarter spurt helped Riverside pull away for victory. Plassmeyer collected eight points in the final frame to help the Panthers secure the victory. PLAYOFFS! EC Basketball Teams Have Opening Round Match-Ups Announced

For the first time in 25 years, both the Ellwood City boys and girls basketball teams have qualified for their respective WPIAL Playoffs in the same season. The Ellwood City boys (15-7 Overall, 9-3 Section 3A-1), winners of five consecutive games and 10 of their last 11 games, earned a 9-seed in the WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs and will face Washington on Monday, February 19th. The Ellwood City girls basketball team used a decisive third quarter to race away from rival Riverside Monday evening and pick-up a 60-31 RivEll Cup victory that secured a Class 3A playoff berth. The Wolverines used a 24-4 third quarter onslaught to pull away from the visiting Panthers. Claire Noble led all scorers with 25 points including five 3-pointers to pace the Ellwood City offense. Just days after the boys basketball team defeated Neshannock, the Ellwood City girls basketball team went on the road and upset the section-leading Lady Lancers 67-60 Thursday night. The Ellwood City boys and girls basketball team each netted a Christmas Tournament championship Thursday evening. First, the Wolverines boys team easily dismantled Maplewood 62-22 to capture the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship. Nine players, including all five starters, scored in the victory. Colten Crizer scored a game-high 13 points while Ryan Widmaier scored a career-high 12 points off the bench. A pair of big men led the offensive charge Wednesday night for the Ellwood City boys basketball team as they picked up a victory over Redbank Valley in the Mercer Christmas Tournament. Aaron Lake – who finished with a career high 22 points – and Joseph Roth combined to score 53 points in the Wolverines 77-71 victory. Congratulations to Claire Noble who signed her National Letter of Intent Wednesday to continue her academic and basketball career at Clarion University. Claire Noble, a senior standout athlete at Lincoln High School in Ellwood City, signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to continue her academic and athletic career at Clarion University. Ellwood City Girls Basketball To Hold Youth Clinic

Let’s Bounce. The Ellwood City Girls Basketball team, including Head Coach Dena Noble, along with her staff and players, will be hosting a basketball clinic for girls in Grades 3-6. The clinic is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 4th and Saturday, November 11th. Both days are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lincoln High School large gymnasium.
