Emma Meyers knocked home four 3-pointers and scored a game high 14 points to lead Riverside to a 46-17 victory over Ellwood City on Monday. Meyers was among eight Panthers that scored in the rivalry victory. Gabby McElwain and Addison Drake each pitched in two 3-pointers and eight points a piece for Riverside who posted nine 3-pointers as a team. The Panthers led 30-5 at halftime. Lady Wolverines Upset Keystone Oaks, Move On To WPIAL Semifinals

Caitlin Kretizer and Delaney Sturgeon combined to score 11 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Lady Wolverines to a 40-37 comeback victory over #4 Keystone Oaks Wednesday night. After a sluggish first half that left the halftime score 18-14 in favor of the Golden Eagles, Ellwood City found momentum and scoring in the second half, putting up 26 second half points. Lady Wolverines Upset Seton LaSalle, Earn First Playoff Victory Since ’95

Delaney Sturgeon poured in 28 points to lead Ellwood City to its first WPIAL playoff victory since 1995 with a 49-41 upset of No. 5 seed Seton LaSalle in a Class 3A first round game played at Chartiers Valley. Sturgeon score nine of the Wolverines 12 fourth quarter points as Ellwood City pulled away for the victory. It was a long evening Tuesday as the Ellwood City boys and girls basketball squads teamed up for a senior night double header against Beaver Falls. Two overtime thrillers later, both teams collected victories amid a combined eleven periods of play. Gabriella Finch and Delana Fox each scored 10 points to lead the Lady Panthers to a narrow 40-37 Riv-Ell victory over Ellwood City Monday night at Lincoln High School. All five starters scored for Riverside in its victory. Jones, Sturgeon Earn All-Tournament; Wolverine Basketball Teams Each Split Games In Weekend Tournaments

Delaney Sturgeon scored a game-high 20 points and Kayla Jones added 19 points as Ellwood City defeated Shenango 59-23 in its second game of the Shenango Christmas Tournament. For their efforts each were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Lady Panthers bested rival Ellwood City 54-50 Monday evening at Riverside High School. Camryn Friello connected on four 3-pointers, including two in a pivotal fourth quarter, en route to her game-high 16 points to lead Riverside. Riverside entered the final quarter trailing by two points, but used a six point cushion in the frame to come out ahead for the victory. McCartney Plassmeyer poured in a game high 25 points Monday evening to lead Riverside to a 59-44 victory over Western Beaver. The 6’1′ junior guard connected on two 3-pointers and posted 14 first half points as the Panthers jumped out to a 28-22 halftime advantage. PLAYOFFS! EC Basketball Teams Have Opening Round Match-Ups Announced

For the first time in 25 years, both the Ellwood City boys and girls basketball teams have qualified for their respective WPIAL Playoffs in the same season. The Ellwood City boys (15-7 Overall, 9-3 Section 3A-1), winners of five consecutive games and 10 of their last 11 games, earned a 9-seed in the WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs and will face Washington on Monday, February 19th.
