The Ellwood City boys basketball team split two games this week, while Riverside boys team fell on a last second shot to Neshannock. For the Wolverines, coming off its upset road victory over Aliquippa last Friday, two home games netted a victory over New Brighton on Tuesday and a home defeat to Hopewell on Wednesday.  A high powered scoring attack netted the victory on Tuesday that stretched the Wolverine win streak to three games. Wolverines Stun Aliquippa On Road, Win 51-50

In what comes as a surprise to many, but also may be a sign of things to come, the young Wolverines boys basketball team stunned and upset Aliquippa Friday night, winning 51-50 on the road. Sophomore Alexander Roth led all scorers, finishing with four 3-pointers and 22 points, to lead the Wolverines in their come from behind victory. Ellwood City, who trailed 26-22 at halftime, outscored Aliquippa 18-11 in the final frame and cemented the one point victory with clutch free throw shooting late. PHOTOS: Riverside 3rd Quarter Surge Leads To Rivalry Victory

Riverside used a third quarter surge to pull away to its 59-47 rivalry victory over Ellwood City on Friday.  The victory capped a season sweep for the Panthers in the two- game Riv-Ell series. After a quick six point surge to start the third frame, Ellwood City responded to cut what had become a seven point lead down to a single possession. Pre-Sell Ticket Information For Ellwood/Riverside Game

Ellwood City students will have the chance to purchase their student tickets, and adult tickets, during school from now until Friday at noon. The big rivalry game between Ellwood City and Riverside will be at Lincoln High School on Friday, February 8 with the varsity game tip off at 7:30 p.m. The game will be Ellwood’s senior night as well as a candlelight vigil for Kait Francis. Tickets will be on sale for $2.00 for a student ticket and $5.00 for adult tickets. It is important to note that there will not be student tickets sold at the doors on Friday….


Wolverines Emerge Victorious Against New Brighton

After a back and forth first half and much of a stalemate in the third quarter, the Ellwood City boys basketball team used a decisive fourth quarter to emerge victorious against New Brighton 55-46 on Tuesday. Ryan Gibbons scored a game-high, and season-high, 16 points (7-12 shooting, two 3-pointers) to lead the Wolverines. The Riverside Panthers stifled the Ellwood City Wolverines offense on its way to a 57-33 rivalry victory at home Tuesday night. Ben Hughes, Kevin Kolesar, and Nathan Sciarro led the Panthers offense, while the Riverside defense held Ellwood City to a single field goal in the second quarter, 14 points in the first half, and an overall 23% shooting performance. Wolverines Notch A Comeback Victory Over Lancers

Ellwood City boys basketball team gained a come-from-behind victory against Neshannock 58-55 on Friday with the help of Steve Antuono, who scored game-high 27 points. After trailing 36-32 after three quarters, and by as many as six points in several occasions in the fourth quarter, the Wolverines clawed back to victory, scoring the last seven points of the contest. Wolverines Notch A Win Against Mohawk Area

Steve Antuono scored a game-high 21 points to lead Ellwood City to a 51-45 victory over Mohawk Area on Saturday. The Wolverines (4-6 overall) ran away with an early lead after a 15-point second quarter, running up the lead to 27-18 by halftime. Antuono collected three 3-pointers on his way to high game-high point total (6-15 overall, 3-6 3-pointers). He also shot well from the line, making 86% (6-for-7) of free throws attempted. Both Ellwood City Wolverine boys and girls basketball teams collected holiday tournament championships over the weekend.  The boys basketball team took the Mercer Christmas Tournament championship Friday while the girls basketball team upset the host Spartans to collect a Laurel Christmas Tournament championship on Saturday.
