Aided by six match victories, the Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team defeated New Castle 42-17 Tuesday evening during senior night. Match victories by Jake Alberts, Tyler Baird, Donavan Chambers, Doug Balin, Braden Strohecker, and Austin Walley proved decisive in the Wolverines victory. Ellwood City’s next match is against Fort Cherry on Wednesday at 6:00pm. The Wolverines will then head into the section and WPIAL tournament the following weekend (2/16/18-2-17-18). Ellwood City Wolverines Defeat Steel Valley

Munhall, PA– Lincoln won 55-42 against Steel Valley on Wednesday with the help of Anthony Roth, who scored 25 points, including 17 points in a decisive 3rd quarter for the Wolverines. Ellwood City Wolverines clinched their lead in the third quarter on a free throw from Roth. Lincoln came back with a vengeance in the final two quarters, after being behind early in the game, trailing 23-19 at the half. Five Wolverine wrestlers were victorious in their final matches at the Midwestern Athletic Conference Tournament, which was held January 6-7 at Hopewell High School. In championship matches, at the 132 pound weight class – Ellwood City’s Tyler Alberts collected a major decision and victory over Jake Pail, Freedom, 8-0. In third-place consolation matches, at 120-pound weight class – Tyler Baird was victorious by decision over Nick Reconnu, Montour, 5-1. Highlights Impressive showing by our new comers from Jr. High Austin Walley and Jake Alberts who had a very strong showing in their first varsity matches. Austin went 4-1 for the day and Jake went 5-0 for the day. After taking a year off, HWT Vincent Decaria did not disappoint with a record of 4-1 for the day.
