Council Votes to Create Hospital/Medical District

Ellwood City Borough Council voted Monday night 6-0 to create a hospital/medical district on the property where the Ellwood City Medical Center is located. Missing from the vote was councilman Rob Brough. There was no public input during Monday’s vote. Ellwood City Medical Center Offering Kidney Classes

A public hearing regarding a possible hospital/medical zoning district will be held on April 8 at 5:45 p.m. at the municipal building, 525 Lawrence Ave. The hospital, which was bought by Americore Health LLC in 2017. Investigations Continue to Ramp Up At Ellwood City Medical Center

According to a LeeDaily.com article and a local news report, information surfaced over the weekend that the Pennsylvania Department of Health is investigating possible code violations at Ellwood City Medical Center. During an inspection last week, it has been reported that state inspectors found large amounts of biohazardous waste stored improperly in a shed on the hospital grounds. On January 15, unconfirmed reports state that the biohazard disposal company was refusing to pick up the hospital’s waste because Americore had not paid them. KDKA reporter Ralph Iannotti once again brought recent details in a video posted over the weekend following the “on-again, off-again payroll mess” at the Ellwood City Medical Center. According to the video report, the medical center failed to pay its December electric bill, which has cause some in the community to want to take action. Employees are still on the job, keeping the Ellwood City Medical Center open and safe, but without pay.  This may change as state and Lawrence County lawmakers are now calling for an investigation into the medical center. Last week, employees finally received good checks owed before Christmas – two weeks late – amid a series of recently reported payroll problems. Ellwood City Medical Center Pays Off Debts To Borough

As of Tuesday, December 4, the debts to the Borough of Ellwood City have been cleared for the struggling Ellwood City Medical Center. Joe Cioffi, Ellwood City’s interim borough manager, confirmed that two checks had arrived on Tuesday on behalf of the Florida-based company Americore Health LLC, the owner of the medical center,  that had paid off the hospital’s existing debt with the borough. According to Cioffi, Fidelity National Title Insurance Co. of Chicago wrote the checks. The company had closed on a refinancing deal with Americore last week. Tonight for Ellwoods Trick or Treating, the Ellwood Cit Medical Center will be handing out treats from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be treats located near the main entrance driveway.
