Ellwood City observed National Day of Prayer with a gathering in the Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue at noon yesterday. “Wake Up America” was the theme. It was the 65th annual National Day of Prayer. Rev. Norina Owens of Women of Faith International Inc. gave the welcome. State Representative Jaret Gibbons, D-10, gave the greeting and pledge. Alfred M. Aniceti, 91, of Ellwood City passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2016 in the Ellwood City Hospital Emergency Room. Alfred was born on July 22, 1924 in New Castle to the late Giovanni and Camille Peltier Aniceti. During his youth, Alfred joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, a New Deal program that allowed teenagers to work on public related projects. He then served with the American Merchant Marines from May 14, 1943 until his discharge on July 5, 1945. Police: Assault and Damage to a Car, Attempted Burglary, and Hitting Utility Poles

Man Assaults Man and Damages Car According to the criminal complaint, Richard C. Myers, 39, of Ellport, assaulted a man and damaged his car during an accident on April 15 at approximately 4:30 p.m. The victim testified that he had driven to a residence in Ellport to drop his son’s bicycle off. Myers, the victim’s ex-wife’s boyfriend, subsequently punched him through the open window of the driver’s seat, knocking his glasses off. The victim exited the car to retrieve his glasses and was further assaulted by Myers, causing damage to the vehicle. The victim left the scene and informed police….

Katherine “Kay” Krupa, 74 of Fourth Avenue, Koppel passed away at the ER of the Ellwood City Hospital on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 8:12 p.m. Born in Ellwood City on Nov. 22, 1941, Kay was the daughter of the late Jim and Doris Hollinback Hazen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Krupa on Sept. 30, 2011. They were married on Sept. 9, 1958.
