Betty J. Rice, 87, of Old Zelienople Rd., Ellwood City (Franklin Twp.) passed away Monday, October 15, 2018 at UPMC – St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness. Born July 18, 1931 in Jackson Twp. PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Alma Agnew Herr. She was married to Mervin D. Rice for 68 years when he passed away December 17, 2012. Virginia M. McGinnis, 93, of Wampum passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born February 9, 1925 in the Troy Hill area of Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Loretta Sheetz Gmuer. She was married to John F. McGinnis Jr. who passed away September 25, 1986. Virginia was a member of St. Catherine’s of Sienna in Beechview. She enjoyed knitting and reading. Virginia cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Hildegard Rough, 90, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the VNA Hospice of Butler. Mrs. Rough was born on June 28, 1928 to the late Michael and Karoline (Grimm) Mesig in Heidelberg, Germany. She was educated in Germany before coming to the U.S.. For many years, Hildegard worked at the Ellwood City Hospital and later at the McGuire Home. She was a member of the German Women’s Club of Ellwood City, and enjoyed cooking, baking, and traveling. John Boariu Jr., 86, of Ellwood City passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Avalon Nursing Center following an extended illness. Born August 3, 1932 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late John and Eugenia Luca Boariu Sr.. He was married for 65 years to Yvonne Weller Boariu who survives. John graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950 and served in the Army during the Korean War. Joseph J. Lance, 61, of North Sewickley Twp. passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his residence with his loving family at his bedside. Joseph was born on April 19, 1957 in Ellwood City to the late Lawrence and Clara S. (Owoc) Lance. He is a member of the Riverside High School class of 1975, and attended the Community College of Beaver County where he studied maintenance courses. Mrs. Varrato was born on December 25, 1918 in Altoona, Pa to the late Antonio D. and Marie (Lombardi) Carmosino. She had graduated from the Altoona High School in 1938 and then from Mary Hammond’s Beauty School in Altoona. Robert   A.  Doughty, 88,  of  Ellwood City,  passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, October 2 2018 at the Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle.
