The 59th Annual Delmar Golf Course Club Championship was held over this past weekend. Jack Ferrante Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament

The Jack Ferrante Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be at Del Mar Golf Course on Sunday, August 11. The tournament is named after Jack Ferrante, who had been the first Groundskeeper/Pro at the Del Mar Golf Course. “He played an important role in the development of the course in the early 1960s,” said event organizer, Joe Cioffi, in a statement. Ellwood City defeated Mars, 4-2, to win the 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Sunday night. Ellwood City, which went undefeated in the tournament, won the title for the first time since 2008. Cheered on by a large home crowd, Ellwood City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a 1-0 deficit. With the victory, Ellwood City won their third straight tournament-winning the New Brighton and Neshannock tournaments previously. Ellwood City downed Saxonburg, 12-6, in the 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field Wednesday night. Landis allowed one hit over four innings and smacked two singles and a double to lead Ellwood City.  Ellwood City scored two runs in the top of the first inning.  Jordan Keller led off with a single, stole second base and scored on an RBI-single by Tristan Nash. 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament Begins This Week

The 68th Ellwood City Little League Tournament, the oldest tournament in the area, began Tuesday night at Friedhoff Field in Ewing Park. New Brighton squared off against Neshannock on Tuesday in the opening game. Ellwood City will meet Saxonburg on Wednesday at 6:00 PM.  Ellwood City will be seeking its first championship since 2008.  Wilmington collected the tournament championship last year while Riverside has been crown champion three times in the last 10 years. Riverside Senior Shines But Misses Cut For U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship

Justin Hand, a soon-to-be-senior at Riverside High School, finished with a second-round 77 last Tuesday, missing the cut after his first two rounds (76+77=153) at the 2019 US Junior Amateur Championship. Hand had qualified for the tournament after finishing first in a field of 46 golfers at a sectional qualifier held in June at Grove City Country Club. Riverside’s Hand Finishes Strong In Opening Round at US Junior Amateur Championship

Riverside’s Justin Hand posted an opening-round 76 (+5) on Monday in the 72nd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at historic Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. After struggling on the front nine of the round, including posting a triple-bogey, Hand settled down and fired a two-under 34 on the back-nine to level out to his first-round 76. The round sets him tied for 64th place out of 156 golfers. Upcoming Tennis Mini-Clinic Planned In Ewing Park

There will be a youth tennis clinic hosted by the Ellwood City Girls tennis team and coaches, marking this year as the 5th year of holding the clinic. “We want kids to find interest in playing tennis and learning about the game,” said girls tennis head coach John DiBuono.
