Panthers Have Set Of MVPs, Set Javelin Record In Beaver County Track & Field Championships

Saturday marked the 50th Beaver County Track and Field Championships competition held at Riverside High School. Ellwood City and Riverside teams were well represented and turned in some podium-worthy performances and all four teams put together top ten finishes. Riverside Panthers Lexi Fluharty earned Most Valuable Performance on the track while Carlee Crawford earned Most Valuable Performance in the field to highlight a Lady Panthers team that finished second overall in the Beaver County Track Championships. Christian Lucarelli struck out 11 Wildcat batters over 4 2/3 shutout innings as the Panthers shutout Shenango 11-0 to complete its mini series sweep. Lucarelli allowed only two hits – both singles – and three walks in his victory on the rubber. The win pushes the Panthers record to 7-0 on the season. The Wolverines varsity softball team scored 15 runs for the second consecutive game – this time it took just three innings for the mercy rule to end things as they beat Beaver Falls 15-0 Wednesday evening. Ellwood City outfielder Lexi Beck capped a five run first inning attack with a two run double to left field scoring Keira Rozanski and Ellie Kalantzis. Panthers Stay Unbeaten With Victory Over Shenango; Ellwood City Falls To Neshannock

Riverside took a late lead to defeat Shenango 6-3 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten on the regular season. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when Panther slugger Bo Fornataro singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs as part of the four run inning that pushed the host Panthers ahead 6-2. Ellwood City made quick work of Blackhawk Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park, earning head coach Gary Rozanski his 200th career coaching victory. The non-section contest was halted after five innings as the Lady Wolverines mercy ruled the Cougars 15-1. Wednesday evening’s game between Ellwood City and Mohawk at Stiefel Park had a playoff feel even though it was just the second section game for both squads. Both pre-season favorites to compete for the section crown entered the game with 0-1 section records and the winner would jump right back into the section race while the loser would be in a deeper hole. Ellwood City leaned on Ryan Odom who earned a singles match victory to propel Ellwood City to a 3-2 victory over rival Riverside on Tuesday. Odom defeated Jaden Falk 6-5 and 7-5. Riverside Routs Beaver Falls, Remains Unbeaten

Five Panthers collected doubles in a 15-0 rout of Beaver Falls on Monday afternoon. Sam Barber, Bo Fornataro, Mitch Garvin, and Darren McDade swatted two-baggers while Sean Hayes collected two doubles in the offensive attack. Garvin finished with three RBIs to lead the Panthers who are now 4-0 on the young season.
