Riverside Baseball, Softball Teams Each Collect Victories

The Riverside baseball and softball made quick work of opponents on Wednesday, each earning mercy-rule victories. The Panthers baseball team took to the road and shut-out Beaver Falls 16-0 in four innings. Hunter Garvin smashed a three-run homerun as part of a six run offensive onslaught in the second inning. Ashton Schlosser earned the win for Riverside on the mound. The southpaw allowed only one hit across his three innings of shutout baseball. Lady Wolverines Rally Late, Knock Off Central Valley 6-4

Ellwood City used a late rally, on the road, Monday to earn a 6-4 victory against unbeaten section foe Central Valley. After training 4-0 entering the top of the six inning, the Wolverines struck for four runs and added two more in the seventh to pull away to victory. Ellie Kalantzis connected on a pivotal home run in the sixth inning rally and Kiley LeViere singled in the frame to knot the score. EC Boys, RHS Girls Each Collect 2nd Place Finishes At 2024 Beaver County Championships

The Ellwood City Boys and Riverside Girls Track and Field Teams each collected 2nd Place finishes At Beaver County Championships Saturday at Helling Stadium. The Wolverine boys finished with 83 team points on the afternoon while the Panther girls collected 84.5 points. For Ellwood City, the four man relay team of Nick Wise, Bradley Custer, Drew Steffler, and Colten Crizer posted a 1st place finish in the Boys 4×800 Meter Relay (8:28.62). Beaver County Track & Field Championship Location Changed To Ellwood City

Due to weather circumstances, the 2024 Beaver County Championships Invitational scheduled for Saturday, April 13th has been moved from Riverside High School to Ellwood City. The invitational will now be held at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park. Cost for spectators is $5.00. Field events begin at 9:30 a.m. and running events begins at 10:00 am.


ECASD’s Board of Directors Tables Motion to Dissolve the District’s Soccer Program

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to table a motion to dissolve the District Soccer program during their regular meeting Thursday night. The consideration was originally on the agenda after interest in the program seemed to dwindle when a Google Document for sign up wasn’t completed by enough students to develop enough of a roster to hold practices or maintain a consistent team. Big innings by each of the local softball teams helped secure home victories on Wednesday. Ellwood City used a 7-run second inning en route to a 13-0 mercy rule victory over Beaver Falls while Riverside used an 8-run fourth inning to bounce New Brighton 13-0. Riverside Defeats Shenango 7-1, Oliastro Collects 700th Career Victory

Riverside Panthers coach Dan Oliastro collected his 700th career coaching victory as the Panthers defeated Shenango 7-1 on the road Monday afternoon. Darren McDade finished with four RBIs to lead the Panthers offense and batterymate Christian Lucarelli collected the win on the mound. Mayor Court Proclaims Joseph Connor Roth Day

Ellwood City Mayor Anthony J. Court proclaimed April 4, 2024 as Joseph Connor Roth day in the Borough of Ellwood City. Roth was recognized as being the all-time leading scorer in Ellwood City Boys’ Basketball with 2,109 points in his career. He was a four year starter and helped Ellwood City win the WPIAL Class-3A title in the 2020-21 season. His point total placed him 5th overall in Lawrence County all-time scoring and in the top 30 All-time in the WPIAL. A four run fourth inning proved pivitol on Wednesday as Ellwood City defeated Quaker Valley 5-3 at Jack Critchfield Park on the campus of Slippery Rock University.
